Northeast shivers in deadly cold: NYC prepares for record breaking deep freeze as the thermometer dips below -15f amid warnings of frostbite in TEN MINUTES while parts of New Hampshire brace for temperatures colder than MARS
  • Frigid temperatures continue to drop in the wake of a 'bomb cyclone' storm, with experts saying that parts of the northeastern United States will have areas colder than the surface of Mars
  • Meteorologists studying weather patterns in the northeast past of the US say that wind chills in one part of New Hampshire were forecast to hit negative 100 degrees
  • East Coasters are dealing with a deadly dip in temperatures just days after a winter storm walloped the region with up to 18 inches of snow
  • Temperatures across the Northeast are in the teens, but will feel below zero in most places with wind chill
  • These dangerously low temperatures are expected to last the weekend
  • The region will begin to thaw early next week, with temperatures expected to return to the more seasonal 30s and 40s
  • It comes just days after Winter Storm Grayson swept through the Northeast, closing schools and business and causing massive flooding in coastal Massachusetts
  • At least seven deaths have been attributed to the storm

2 to 6c here. But at least the sun will be shining and that cheers me up no end. Once the sun is out, my garden will be warmed up nicely..

It's like the US is being hit by a cold bomb!

It is -2 degrees F. ( -18C) With a wind chill of -9.

I have brought the cats inside.

I do not care that there are 3 layers of fancy high-grade insulation on the cat house; we are all jumbled together in the recliner, and every one is purring.

The Weather Channel tells me that we will warm up to almost not freezing today. It hasn't been that warm since before Christmas. And Monday, depending on how much more it warms, we will either have snow, or freezing rain.

 It is warmer in Anchorage, Alaska. o_O 21 degrees F.

Not even going to talk about our weather, lest I start drinking way before I normally would/do.

It's not that strange, since the snow was in the most northern section of Florida, on the panhandle. It actually gets cold enough for snow many times in Florida, but it's not usually accompanied by the moisture needed. I lived in Orlando back in the '70's as a kid and it snowed, now that is unusual, since Orlando is in the center of the state.

As for the lizards, they're non-native, so they are not use to this stuff; they're not actually dead, they're just hibernating and fall from a tree and usually survive, the most dangerous part of this is the fall, but some do die if it gets really, really cold and for an extended period of time.

It happens from time to time, but still we have these invasive species, this is a story from back in 2010, that was a far worse cold snap here in Florida. https://phys.org/news/2010-01-florida-cold-snap-disaster-tropical.html

@roadrunner :DI wish I won the lottery and could afford to go to the States for a visit. I only had two pics of Florida.. Wind and rain blasted palm trees during a storm and happy faces in sunny DisneyLand:eek::D. Just went out and it threatened to snow. Tiny flakes in the air. But the post office is still a goldmine, very busy with punters!
