Indeed, the leaves are so big that I have headache. I had to remove them just to walk the path.
My thinking is using the leaves for crafting and eating or cooking the stalks...I have large pots available so hoping they will do well in them rather than putting them into the earth...what you reckon...applying feed and Potash ???

Morning @BigC do you sleep during the day?
Michael Mosley did a programme on insomnia,it could be you haven't got enough good bacteria in your gut.
No I dont tend to sleep during the day @Logan...I get tired around 6 when I finish work and I go and have a lie down (catnap) but nothing that would constitute sleep...my mind seems to get very active...and I cant seem to suppress that, always thinking of jobs and solutions to problems ..its constantly racing..I dont seem to be able to hit the off switch and I dont want to resort to meds...any herbal calming remedies out there you think....

@BigC have some head massage. It does do a lot of good. Or just massage. For your hectic mind, you need to use some holistic measure and not rely on drugs ..

Put them in a warm place. I had mine on a west facing gardening and next to a slab and it grows like mad. @Logan will tell you what to apply. I don't need to as my clay soil is still very good.

@BigC You won't be able to pull any rhubarb stalks for a year, until it's established.Try not to think of things to do, think of something else. Try relaxation techniques, by starting with your face when that's relaxed, do your shoulders and so on. Then when you've done that, think of something that relaxes you. Some music or the sound of a stream.

After a little bit of yoga, we were told to tighten the hands and then relax and relax every bit of the body from head to toes and listen to atonal music (those with no momentum so that your consciousness just drifted) Very soon, the accountant was snoring .. I really liked these yoga sessions. Thanks to the Irish lady who was the head of group secs called Sheila .. Mu... That was nearly 24 years ago.

Morning folks....dry and quite warm for now. However clothes now on the line so maybe rain any time now (n)
BigC, my own mind is a bit like that too. Never really switches off so relaxing is difficult. Got a slight shoulder injury so went to docs ....he suggested temporary pain killers that I declined. Not into meds either. Anyway, for me it is not too bad. Great believer in exercise. GP seemed surprised I refused meds but eventually agreed doing without them is better. Why then did he suggest them?
My birthday today......I reminded everyone not to give me presents etc. (of course this reverse psychology worked so plenty of goodies turned up. Ha ha ;))

Are you sure it is coal and not wood ashes, @MaryMary ?

Oh! I am quite certain it was coal ashes. He heated with coal, in Pennsylvania. He got a massive pile delivered every summer, and we three kids would play "King of the Mountain," which left us covered in coal dust from head to toe...much to the dismay of our mother. :cautious:.

He was our paternal grandfather - Mom felt he was turning us into wild heathens.:ROFLMAO: (There's probably some truth in that, but children need to be heathens from time to time.) He was a colorful old man; taught me my first curse words...which I shouted at the top of my 4 year old lungs! (But that's another story....)

That said, I've done some reading, and the old ways were not always the best ways. :( @BigC, I would use the wood ash, some googling tells me there are heavy metals left in the coal ash, which may not be safe in your edibles. (n)

any herbal calming remedies out there you think....

Chamomile and Valerian root come to mind.

There is a tea I used to drink, let me see if I can find it... Yes!! (y)

https://www.yogiproducts.com/teas/rest-relax-teas/bedtime/

If you scroll down the page, you'll see "What's in this tea," and you can hover your cursor over the question mark (upper right corner of each picture) to see what purpose each one serves. There are also fancy arrows ... < and > ... which will switch the page to the rest of the ingredients. (I thought they were just a pretty border at first!!.)

I also clicked "View all ingredients" - I thought it would take me to a list of ingredients for that tea, which would be easier than clicking the arrows - but it takes you to a list of everything they use in ALL of their teas. o_O

Disclaimer: Although that tea does taste wonderful,, I am not necessarily promoting the purchase of their product. For someone who can make a hot sauce to set fire to the devil, using a list of ingredients to make a tea should be an easy task! :D (y)

Love your post, @MaryMary We used to have coal fire but then we didn't know how to clean it. When we viewed the house, it was churning out tons of heat. With us, we didn't know how to maintain it. Then my son coughed and coughed and the doctor told me that his immune system wouldn't be fully developed until he was six. In the end, we got rid of the burner, only to find it had a 3 inch thick of dirt on the top of the burner!:eek:

I might ask those who pollute the area for some woodash or burn some myself.
