Oh! The roses are lovely. And the agapanthus! Loooooads of buds. I have one stem each and the best is 2 stems and that's it. 2nd year they flowered. Lovely architectural plants. I would line them in when I have a new place.

I looked at this silly seedlings and asked myself, "Why did you put the seeds inside a jiffy? These seeds must be awfully important to you. Why the heck didn't you label them?" So I let some die:sick::sick::sick:.

Suddenly, I had the EPIPHANY! (Does it look like a light bulb?) Crikey! They are my Stipa gigantea seedlings. Oh la la! What an idiot I have been!:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Jiffy pellets to be re-used.

Repotted seedlings!

I am just incorrigible. Labelling is my downfall and I can't even use cats messing about my labels as an excuse, like marlingardener!

Weather crises continue

Has the heatwave ruined Christmas? Trees are hit by the scorching temperatures with 10,000 pines killed off so far while bizarre mini-tornadoes known as dust-devils pop up and tear through building site
  • Christmas tree farmer Rob Morgan from Wales said a third of his plants have been ruined by the hot weather
  • Met Office forecasters predict warm temperatures of up to 87F will continue but rain is expected tomorrow
  • Comes after experts warn of pea crop crisis and as alarming mini-tornadoes have been spotted in Cardiff

When the seed pods mature and yellow, you rip open the pod and you can see them lining up neatly, waiting for you to pick up from school!

But your best bet is to chop up the big clump and repot them in tight pot as they like it pot bound. If the pot is too big, they will sulk and refuse to smile!

That's what I did. I bought a big pot 3 or 5L pot in a lovely nursery. I split the clump into 3 or 4 and now I have new plants and some are flowering. You could sell the seeds on and make some money. But for agapanthus, best is to split the clump up.

I had a good pain day for Hampton Court, rented one of those fancy battery scooters for the walk in but managed to walk around the marquee and a few of the show gardens by myself (y) Lots and lots of goodies, the marquee is my favourite part! Alp, Dyson Salvia nurseries have a new lavender blue/purple addition, I thought of you. Lots of glorious plants but equally overpriced too, however, I came away with a Helianthus 'Flying Saucer' and Agastache Blue Boa. I could easily have invested in a Phlox Blue Paradise & Echinacea Sunseekers Yellow. I didn't quite manage all the show gardens, by 3pm the late-comers arrived and the sun became too much.

A handful of shots from the last few months, I haven't been able to get out there half as much as I'd like but I'm learning my limits without paying the price later on. :) This was before the Lupin Aphids have struck, any tips for the blighters anyone?

Wow! Mark, you're brilliant. I love that delphinium. Breath-taking electric blue. I bought one for £2.50 for which I am crying as it doesn't seem to be doing anything. The foxgloves are lovely. I wish I had collected more seeds in the nursery. They were begging to be collected. All the seed pods were open. I might be banned from that place. I got a bit of Dalmatian, but I just chucked them onto the nursery bed and watered and watered and hope for the best.

Is that a weigela? Gee, it's loaded with flowers. What have you been feeding them with??? Very stunning flowers, Mark? Were you a gardener before? Thank you so much for sharing.

Yes, it was soooooo hot in Hampton Court. Such a beautiful place. Wish I could use a drone to take aerial photos - don't think it's allowed, but such a majestic river and meticulous planting. I would say it is one of the best venue. Son saw Chatsworth Show being assembled when they visited the area. Chatsworth is OK, but not half as wonderful as Hampton Court. Glad that you got round the ground with ease. Yes, they were all overpriced.

I am so happy with my Salvias. My Black and Blue is still very slow. One Amistad has died on me. The other one kept being refused airing by the slugs. So I chucked a handful of the ashes onto the area and now it is a proper plant, still no flower though. The best is that I took some cuttings and 2 weeks, I can see new growths ... What joy!

Hope @Upsy Daisy shows us her cake, talking of which I am very hungry.

Ah, such a lot of blooms. You're blessed with your plants and they are blessed because you look after them.
