The 'not leaning forwards' puzzled me too, I can't remember anything like that, and recovery time was pretty quick. I would expect something like that for a detached retina rather than cataracts. I can see no reason why the operation should need repeating, basically the lens at the front of the eye goes cloudy, something to do with the protein I think, and they puncture the eye, suck out the lens, and then replace it with a plastic one, no reason that should ever cloud over. Mind I was lucky, I was a patient at Moorfields for another condition and the lady who did it was a top Italian eye surgeon assisted by my American consultant. It is the worlds top eye hospital and the best people from around the world come to get experience there, very confidence building.

@Oliver Buckle , I would go to "Will's Eye Clinic" if I do it, suppose to the the best also, (whatever that means) At this point, still threading the needle with not even reading glasses on, I am just holding out. Never been under anesthesia before in my life, so yes, very chicken in that area. And being a real red head we are different with anesthesia than other folks, another scare for me.

A job I didn't want to do.

I've a lot of kit below the Sony Android TV I've got in my den....alright our small front room. I dislike seeing cables and there's a lot to hide behind the TV. So it's like a "snake pit" behind it.

P1040866.jpg

Two Humax HDR tuner/recorders.

The larger and older of the two I use to "file" recordings under "categories," but only recordings I want to save.
The smaller and newer one hasn't this facility, everything has to go in the same "bin." But it's handy for when there are more "disposable" programmes on at the same time I want to record than the Virgin Tivo box can handle.

A Virgin Tivo tuner/recorder. There's another under the matching TV in the lounge.

A CD/DVD player.

A VHS recorder/player.

The VHS machine I've kept as I've some "film noir" I've had for decades. Eventually if everything I've still left on VHS comes round again on TV I can record it on the Humax.

I've six remote controls!

This afternoon I decided to play a DVD.

I used the TV's remote to select which of the six HDMI imputs I want.

Then it was just a question of turning on the DVD machine ith its remote.

Wrong! It wasn't working.

Checked the batteries on my battery tester, they were fine. Then it was a process of elimination. Starting with the mains plugs. There's two on each of the four sides of an adapter behind the TV.

Turned out after about 20 minutes checking, it was a bad connection in the SCART to HDMI adapter I have to use, as the aging CD/DVD player and the VHS machine only have SCART sockets and the TV only accepts leads with HDMI or USB plugs. So it was a case of putting a strong elastic band around the plug and the adapter to get a connection. So I've ordered a new adapter, they're only £7.

They didn't put me under, it was done on a local anesthetic. Completely painless, and I could listen to what was going on, interesting. But then I have never been phased by these things, when I had my leg broken in a motorcycle accident the surgeon said he had never met anyone so eager to give agreement to an operation. I told him from past experience I knew it was the first step to getting better, seemed to surprise him a bit, I suppose not everyone is as autistic as me. :)

Never been under anesthesia before in my life,
They only put it in the eye to numb it, can only feel the water that they use. No don't have to have it done again. Mine took a long time to develop but the glasses didn't help very well. This time the optician couldn't do a proper exam to have glasses.

I was told that, so been going along with it,for 2 weeks can't bend over because it puts pressure on the eye and can get a bleed at the back of the eye. Can't do vacciming, for 4 weeks no strenuous exercise, no lifting pets or toddlers up, don't get soap in the eye. I haven't washed my hair for 2 weeks because of bending over the bath to wash it, but I will do that soon.

Those look good! B is having her cataract on the 16th. She must want it bad for that timing. Its been a year since the other one and two different eyes has been wearing on her nerves. Looks like a quiet Christmas which will bother me not at all!

I think there must be something very different going on here, my surgery was all on the lens on the front of the eye and didn't affect the main eye at all and recovery was very quick, a matter of days. I guess each patient can have different circumstances and potential complications. Sounds like a drag for you, but if that's what they said, go with it, it is well worth it in the long run.

It all depends on what hospital we go to here. Someone who I speak to his wife had 2 lots of eye drops to use for 4 weeks, but I only had 1 type and use them for 2 weeks.
Mine and her's was still on the NHS but hers was local. I went to edgbaston Birmingham at the spa medica hospital they specialise in eye surgery and I didn't have to go to Worcester just for a Covid test. I just had to self isolate for 10 days.

Thank you @DirtMechanic and I hope that everything goes well with B's op.
Mine was getting bad that the optician couldn't do a proper eye test so I had to have it. But I was worrying about nothing, it was over in a few minutes and couldn't feel a thing. When I had mine he covered the whole face with a opening for the eye that he was going to operate on and I didn't hear much at all, It was afterwards when the anaesthetic wore off that it felt bity and irritated but after a few days that wore off. I was given a booklet with the times that I had to put the drops in 4 times a day.

Its now the time of year, like the bears, I hibernate for the winter. My small garden is asleep and I snuggle doing other thingss; sewing my art quilts, doing crossword puzzles, watching my favorite TV programs, playing Solitaire, and reading, reading, reading.
Will take up the trowel again come early spring.

My 3mtr length of pelmet arrived on Monday and I finished the job this afternoon.

It was a right pain cutting the mitre joints with just a mitre block and tenon saw, professionals have electric table mitre saws.
I had to "box in" over the new cupboard to support the MDF I used on which to paste the wallpaper.
I was on a pair of tall steps with my head up againt the ceiling near the spotlights. Had to use a "stubby" screwdriver to mount the batons on the ceiling. Not an easy job.

Used the bit of worktop in front of the cupboards as a paste table as there's no room for one in the kitchen.

I reckon I could get a job decorating the interiors of naffin' telephone boxes.
It was amusing as my wife often offers to "help," but I always decline. There's no room in the kitchen for two people to be working in such a small room and she'd want to tell me how to do it, or explain to her what I was doing and I haven't the time.
I was quite patient when I was up the ladder when she called me into the lounge to show me something trivial on the TV, then said. "Have you any wallpaper?"

I said "Yes! But it's not the same colour." that got her going for a bit.

Anyway the jobs done.
