I've had a further letter from United Utilities (have they got a surplus of stamps?)
It says my water charges are going up by 15%!
But that's only £13.21 a month, so it's not the end of the world.

The replacement tap I ordered over last week-end, for the kitchen, finally arrived at 3.00 pm today.

"Damn it! Janet!"

This one had been getting harder and harder to turn on and off, so much so my wife couldn't use it at all this week. No amount of lubrication made any difference

The new one was a pain to fit.

The flexible tails attached to the supply, for the original one, must have been fitted before the work surface was put on. They didn't reach the base of the tap and the fitter had added two short lengths of copper pipe, because he obviously couldn't be assed to get longer ones.
I couldn't get a spanner on the ends of the tails, so I had to connect each of them to the new tails, with a short length of 15mm pipe. So the supply of hot and cold water now has two tails and two in-line taps. I needed to leave the second ones on the new tails, as it's impossible to reach the original ones. So we've got a longer than usual loop of pipe tails, but there's a space behind the back of the top drawer for them, so it doesn't matter.

It seemed to take for ever, lying on my back with my head and shoulders in the drawer unit, but in the end it only took just over an hour and a half.
The longest time was spent getting the old tap out.

When I said I was going to do this, I got the usual, "Why don't you get a man in?"
But "a man," if they agreed to do it, would have wanted to take the work-top off.
It's a huge corner piece, the tiles come down to the surface and it wouldn't have gone back without causing more work.

Yesterday I received a letter from Trafford Council, advising me of the increase in the Community Charge.

The "good news" is that it's only going up by 5.7%. Not the maximum allowed, 7.9%

The "bad news" is that they get the other .2% by charging you £50 a year (£45 on-line) for a permit to have your "green bin" emptied weekly.

An up-date on our Miele Fridge/Freezer.
We were presented with a choice, by Miele's, "Service Department," which I've since learned are just people working from home in Greece (I thought it would be India), for a number of different companies, who have no technical knowledge, they just work from crib sheets.
There is no facility to talk to anyone with technical knowledge who might be able to give advice.
Having paid £309, for what turned out to be a fairly easy fix, in case a new compressor was required, I complained by letter to their managing director.

I got an apologetic phone call this morning from the MD's secretary, with the promise of a partial refund, I'll "only" have paid £170. The cost of a call-out. So £139 will be "winging its way back to me."
She said he agreed with my suggestion that they could have been better and that they were now going to set up a facility, where customers can ring for advice, but this will cost £70 for the call, but it would be taken off the £170, if a visit is required.
They aren't giving much away, are they?

I've been watching the Players' Championship Golf Tournament from Sawgrass, on the Sky golf channel, off and on, for a few days.
There's a play-off at 9.00am EST, between McIlroy and Spaun, as it was too dark to finish last night. One of commentators, mentioned that the clubhouse of the course, is bigger than the White House.
Gives you an idea of how much money there is in this game.

Too soggy outside anyway. Working on taxes, listing expenditures, income etc. Hopefully end of this month I can turn it all into our accountant. Taking bathroom rugs to the local laundromat, they have big machines that handle such things. washing floors. think that is enough for today. Stopping by for some Milk and veggies.

Besides spending time in the garden, I love working on home projects, especially when it comes to interior design. Lately, I’ve been really into cle tile —their designs add such a unique and artistic touch to any space. After a morning digging in the dirt and tending to my plants, it’s nice to step inside and admire a beautifully tiled backsplash or a handcrafted floor. There’s something so satisfying about creating both an inviting outdoor space and a thoughtfully designed indoor area.

I've done a lot of DIY over the years. Tiles can really enhance a kitchen.

We had this kitchen fitted twenty years ago. But I fitted the false ceiling with down-lighters, boxed in the tops of the units, did the electrics, tiling and laid the laminate floor. It's a very small room.

Over the years there's been some alterations. The kitchen was fitted around the combi boiler we had installed five years earlier.

But 8 years ago, it needed replacing and we were left with this.

The kitchen unit supplier was long gone, but I managed to sort it myself.
Fortunately I'd saved enough tiles to make a new removable fillet that hides the boiler pipe work.

Four years ago, my wife decided she "needed" another cupboard to go next to this one.

So I made one.

But we've never considered changing the tiles. They have a metallic look finish. The grouting was a pain as it's black!
The appliances have all changed, some more than once, some twice, some big names have poor reliability, but the kitchen still looks as good as the day it was fitted. This photo is from last year.

The results of yesterday's golf competition have just come through.
This was a "Par/Bogey." A format we don't like, but it was a glorious day.

If you play a hole to your handicap, you don't score. If you are under it, regardless of by how many shots, you earn one point. Over it, the same but a minus point.

The good news, was that on six holes, I played to my handicap.
The better news, was on six holes, I was under my handicap.
The bad news was that on six holes I was over my handicap!
So I came in with "nil points."

Very disappointing, but I still shared 11th place, out of about 100 members.

This amused me. On a par three, I managed to put my ball within 8ft of the pin.
The three players ahead of us waited on the next tee, which is quite close to the green before driving off, whilst we putted out. Because the noise of them hitting their balls might disturb us. It's what you're expected to do.
I managed to sink my put for a birdie. (still only one point). I showed no reaction to this and the players on the next tee acted as if they hadn't seen it. So, "etiquette was maintained!"
It reminded me of many years ago when we were playing the eighteenth. As I approached where my ball had landed, I could see about a couple of dozen players sitting on the grass outside the clubhouse, as often visiting societies do, before their "tee-time" come up.
I took my second shot and by a fluke it went in the hole. I acted as if it wasn't anything unusual, (I hate making a fuss) and they acted as if they hadn't seen it!

I have had two hole-in-ones at my club. Some members have never had one.

But when you think about it.

There's four par-threes on our course.

If you play three times a week, that's twelve chances you get.

In a year, it'll be at least 500

and in twenty years it'll be over 10,000

So why only two?

My Honda Jazz Crosstar, is beginning to annoy me. I feel like an airline pilot going through a pre-flight check list, "before take off."
It insists I have my seat belt on and my foot on the brake before it lets me start it. Then I have to put it in "automatic brake hold," so the handbrake comes on when I stop the car. Then disable its ability to "grab the wheel" if I move slight towards the side of a lane to avoid a pothole. I can then put it in drive and away we go. But I have to repeat the process every time I use the car.

When I came home from shopping this morning, it considered I was parking a bit too close to our side fence for its liking and told me so. It wouldn't let me put in "park" until I'd moved it.

We've two Stressless recliners in our lounge. When my wife came out of hospital last year, she had difficulty getting out of them. These sort of chairs, are never that easy for anyone.

I'd already bought an "elevator ring" for one of them, a couple of years ago to make getting out easier for her, so when she came home, I screwed several 3" x 2" blocks of wood to the underside of the ring to raise it that much higher. No big deal.

But for the last few days she's been complaining that she's not comfortable sitting in the same chair every day and "could I do something with the other one?"

Not so easy, the "other one," though in perfect condition, is fifteen years old and they no longer make elevator rings for them. They turn on a narrow metal track and attaching feet to it, would likely bend it and it would jam.
So this morning I went to the local wood yard and bought a 2ft square 18 gauge marine ply.
I stood the chair on it and drew round the base with a pencil and cut out the circle with my jig saw.
I cut six 4" bits of 3" x 2" and sanded them down. Easy enough with my belt sander, if I put it upside down in my vice and hold them against it. You can get a very good finish. Then screwed them to the plywood, setting them back 3cms, so they can't be seen.
The tricky bit was attaching the new base to the narrow metal track on which the chair turns, without fouling the runners that support the chair.
So I had to "fettle" four small brackets, screw them to the plywood so they just trapped the edge of the track.
Now, ideally, I should have painted the feet and the edge of the plywood. But I just covered it with black plastic tape. No one's going to notice and it was done and dusted by lunchtime.
The chair is now about 5" higher than it was before, it's more comfortable and far easier for her to get out of it.

I had a filling in one of my back teeth replaced today.
With the annual check-up and X-ray which determined the need two weeks ago, plus a de-scale and polish, the total bill came to £410.

Fortunately, I rarely need anything done, just as well really.
