Far too wet for anything today. It's rained a lot, it made a rather pathetic attempt at snowing, but it only lasted a few minutes.
I've noticed the roses have started to sprout new shoots. On the next dry day, I'm going to give them a dose of Sulphur Rose, to try to get ahead of the black spot.

Deer are gathering around a big mulberry tree by my garden. They nibble the buds since no leaves yet. I figure I would scare them away since the eat the nearby hardy kiwi vine in the summer. I ran after them and 1 of them ran right through my deer netting and electric fence which is off. It wiped out pretty hard and tried to jump over the other side of the netting. Didnt make the jump so it wiped out pretty hard again. This area is about 2 feet higher than the landing so I know it hurt.

Learning lessonof the day don't scare deer near your deer netting. Next time I will calmly walk towards them so they dont get spoked. Had to stand up the knocked over electric fence and fix the tears in the deer netting with zip ties.

Gave myself self more work but its all my fault!

That'll put a bit of much needed carbon back into the atmosphere :)

You managed to avoid the one without any branches in the centre of the first pic. Probably a good idea. :D

still nice and dry. continue the removing leaves from beds and other spaces. some pruning. I have a bunch of columbine seeds in pods still trying to figure out how I want to plant them, fling them to the garden and let nature take hold, or get containers to spread the seed out and give more care to them.

I pruned the Quince tree. It is only a small tree, but it had sent out a lot of shoots rising straight up, and it was beginning to encroach on the surrounding pathway; not any longer. It is quite hard with a long pair of loppers and only one eye trying to cut in the appropriate place above head height and between branches but it's done now.
When we came here the lady selling the house said "... and we have two quince trees, one of each type." I never found out what the two types are supposed to be, only that one tree was much more vigorous and healthy, so I dug out the weakling. A bowl of ripe quinces makes a room smell nice, or one in an apple pie, but two trees full? I think not.

Sowed a few seeds, the left over broad beans I sowed in cardboard tube back in January are coming up, I think germination may be erratic, some of them were pretty old, but I bought a new pack so I can sow outside in a bit and get a nice follow on.

Gradually getting buckets ready for planting tomatoes in, I have a fair bit of oak chainsaw chipping from cutting wood for the house, so I am packing round the wood in the bottom of the buckets with that

Mos tly got rained on, it kept brightening up enough to tempt me, but then started raining again, not heavily, just enough to be miserable. So, after chopping some wood and sorting and clearing yesterday's prunings, I retreated to the greenhousewhere I watered weeded and generally tidied up.
