I pruned the Quince tree. It is only a small tree, but it had sent out a lot of shoots rising straight up, and it was beginning to encroach on the surrounding pathway; not any longer. It is quite hard with a long pair of loppers and only one eye trying to cut in the appropriate place above head height and between branches but it's done now.
When we came here the lady selling the house said "... and we have two quince trees, one of each type." I never found out what the two types are supposed to be, only that one tree was much more vigorous and healthy, so I dug out the weakling. A bowl of ripe quinces makes a room smell nice, or one in an apple pie, but two trees full? I think not.
Sowed a few seeds, the left over broad beans I sowed in cardboard tube back in January are coming up, I think germination may be erratic, some of them were pretty old, but I bought a new pack so I can sow outside in a bit and get a nice follow on.
Gradually getting buckets ready for planting tomatoes in, I have a fair bit of oak chainsaw chipping from cutting wood for the house, so I am packing round the wood in the bottom of the buckets with that
