Rain, rain, and more rain here. I did manage to cut the grass between storms the other day. I just had to pray that the sun would come out long enough to dry the grass first. The grass dried, I cut it all, and less than an hour later the thunderstorms moved back in!! I love me a good thunderstorm, so that was nice. My wife and I sat outside on the front porch and watched the light show.

The chickens are doing great! We are getting four to five eggs every day from our five girls. Our tomatoes are still green, but one of them (just one) is starting to turn ever so slightly red, so there is hope. LOL

Huge sale at the local nursery again, so we went and bought some indoor plants that are good for air cleaning and such. I built my wife a plant stand yesterday. I'll have to post a photo later. It's just a simple little thing made with scrap lumber from my wood shop.

Fortunately not a lot needed doing, as there's golf and cricket on TV. The cricket is finished for the day but there's at least an hour or so of golf to go. I'm presently watching it with the sound muted over my laptop where I've got a YouTube audio book of a film noir story running.

But earlier in the day... I took at least six inches off the "fringe" of this acer with garden shears, to give the grass below it a chance. It always struggles as it's almost permanently in shade.

This hydrangea doesn't get much sun, but always does well.

This mimosa is making a bit of a recovery, but I don't go much on it. There's a couple of branches that aren't doing anything. Mentally, I've more or less written it off, but I'll leave it for a few months then decide whether to keep it or not. It would always need its tall bamboo cane support.

Brother in law and I erected the basic four corner posts and roof structure of a second hand greenhouse he gave me. I have built new ones on my own, but I couldn't manage this. Now I have the basic frame I should be able to fill it in fine. Went round all the corner joints and wrapped them in tape and then taped four supports to make sure it stays until I get to it.
Watered.

Cut the grass again today. All the rain makes it grow so fast. I have to cut it every two to three days, which I don't mind because I really enjoy cutting it! I also made plans to build another raised bed in the lower part of my back yard. I need to get eight 4x4 posts and some 2x8 lumber for the job. It should be relatively easy. I used a manual post hole digger last time for my chicken coop. This time, I may just rent a gas powered auger for the holes. I'll pick up 16 bags of concrete as well.

I pulled a bunch of Bermuda grass today. I gave up on the other weeds in my yard until fall because I'm going to need some strong chemicals to deal with this stuff. It's so frustrating. I can't really do anything in the heat of the summer that I know of.

I pulled weeds out of our pollinator garden this morning after we got back from watching the hot air balloon launch downtown. We have what's called "Fun Fest" every year in our town. They block off the main street for nine days, and every day and into the night there are lots of events for adults, children, animals, and such. Concerts all week, various food vendors, etc. It's a fantastic time!! The pollinator garden is chock full of crab grass, Bermuda grass, and other stuff that I can't identify. I wish flowers and good things grew as well as weeds do.

I am spent lol. I don't even have the energy to explain what all I did today but a lot of digging and trimming. I was fine until having to bend. I don't know if it's because I'm not in my 30's anymore or I just need to exercise my lower back more but I feel like I just did 3 rounds with Mike Tyson in his glory days. Standing all day lifting, pulling, pushing no problem. But bending is pure pain after an hour. I want my 20 year old body back lol.

My lovely wife pulled all the old cucumber and squash plants and I carried it all to the compost pile. She also planted some really long beans (forgot the name of them) and some pole beans in one of our raised beds. I will probably have to build a trellis of sorts for the beans to climb on. Last night I watered our watermelons and honeydew melons. I'm concerned about the watermelon plants because they were fine one day, and the next day they look like they were all attacked by something. I kind of think they are just in need of water because melons need a LOT of water, so I'll start with more water and see if they perk up any. I didn't see any pests on the leaves, so maybe it's something in the dirt attacking the roots. I'll wait a couple days after watering more and see if they continue to decline.

Good info here on the forum for watermelons in general. Covered how to identify when WMs need water with pictures before and after.

There is actually a heck of a lot of information here, I sometimes wonder how often someone logs in, types their problem into search, get the information , and leave.

Picked some big ugly pickles to experiment with making pickles that has a crazy amount of dill and garlic. No loss if they don't turn out but I am excited to see how they are in a few weeks. I was going to smoke some jalapeno poppers but then the rain came. It has been raining every day, 5 minutes here.. an hour there.. it's driving me nuts. Start of summer no rain. Now it's endless. This is not normal for July.

Had a storm come and it knocked over the corn patch. Did my best to stake them up right.

Harvested Nectarines, bluberries and cucumbers.
