Got a lot done over the 4th of July Holiday week. Stayed busy from 5 to about 10am and then again at 4-7pm. It was so hot!

Out of everything I did this was my favorite acomplishment. Removed 2 mulberries an Illinois and Kokuso. I thought I could control the growth. To vigorous for that row. The Kokuso didnt take well to the pruning. However, the mulberries were absolutley delicous. Maybe I'll plant some more somewhere else in the future.

Planted 2 last year and 2 more this past week.

I love those mulberries, but unfortunately untimely hard freezes have thus far prevented harvesting any here. Congrats on being able to do that.

We harvested probably ten squash and ten cucumbers last evening. They grow so fast!! Today, I did some modifications to one of our raised beds so that my wife can more easily get to the cucumbers. I forgot to take some photos, so I'll have to post some later. She wants me to do the same modifications to the other side of the horseshoe-shaped raised bed.

The first two weeks in July can be busy, for we gardeners and whatever the weather, there are things to be done, but it's an opportunity to get out of the house and get some fresh air. I'm particularly busy today in our summerhouse as you can see.

This is a ten year-old 32" Panasonic Viera, which got replaced by a larger screen Sony android TV in our front room. It received an excellent picture.

Despite the fact that the aerial is no more than eight feet off the ground in the summerhouse's ceiling void.

I dug out a bunch of Bermuda grass (that stuff is straight from Hell), Crab grass, and Poke Weed from a couple of our raised beds. We had to tie up the watermelon vines and some other melons that I'm not sure of, and we are getting ready to plant some beans this afternoon. The vines were starting to invade our driveway. LOL Our chard is out of control, as you can see in the right side bed. They are over two feet tall. We cut them often and give the stuff away so that it doesn't go bad.

Got five more eggs from our five chickens this morning, and I am building a full roof over their run. It'll be 6 ft. x 18 ft. so that they can be out there using the entire run when it's raining. I also built a dust bath for them. We are going to go try to find some proper sand for it today.

Our raised beds in the back of our yard are going nuts too! Tomato plants, squash, cucumbers....they are all out of control as well.

Had Potatoes growing in 10 gallon Bags. Didn't work all tops and no Potatoes.

Seems my Root Crops not doing well. I'm thinking too much Nitrogen.

Coons still trying to get my Chickens. Son fixed it again. Thinking of just building another Shed.

Didn't do anything apart from a walk around it.
We've several giant lilies, that seem to thrive on neglect.

This hydrangea does well.

The two troughs with two hebes separated by a heather look good. In the spring the four hebes will change places with the four heathers in the troughs either side of the summerhouse steps. There's another hebe in the small bed behind.

There's another hebe in the bed behind this one, that's not doing well. It's quite old. I've another the same as the first one, further down the garden for which I'll swop it in the autumn.

I'm more than pleased with this Acer palmatum Taylor, it's doing well in its pot.
I'm letting it do its own thing at the moment, but I'll tidy it up in the late autumn, I'd rather it grow up than too wide on this small patio.

My first attempt at burying wood last year I made a trench about eight feet long and two wide, put the wood in to slightly above ground level and built up wooden sides to hold it. They were a mistake, there is too much moisture loss and it was pretty dry anyway last year, so today I started taking the sides off building a slope of wood and then filling in the gars with chainsaw chippings before covering with soil so I have a proper mound. I also swept down the path which was in a bit of a state, the sieved sweepings went into my mound and the larger stuff into the compost. Watered everything fairly thoroughly, we keep being told it will rain, but only a little drizzle so far

"I had my work cut out today," finding time to do stuff with, golf, tennis and cricket on TV.

But I managed to find time to swop this

For this in the ceramic pot by the front door. It will soon be in flower.

It's big enough to take any plant I have in a plastic pot. It had an azalea in it earlier in the year.

So I said to my husband the other day, WHERE IS THE HAND SAW??? I need it to prune out some limbs. He said, that I am not looking in the right place. I have looked everywhere, can't find it. So texted him, to find it. Saw him yesterday looking for it. He can't find it, but will not admit he can't find it. He puts things places, not back to the original spot.
I am going to go out and BUY a new one and hide it. So I can prune my limbs.

Fortunately I don't have many places to lose things. They either get put away, or left on the bench in the garage or either of the two work surfaces in the shed.

I won't deny when the latter happens, I later start looking for something where it ought to be.

I know he's not going to find it. And he can't admit he lost it. its now been a week.
