This is a good reminder for me because I need to trim all the hedges in my front yard. I also have some Poison Ivy growing next to all three of my Dogwood trees. I need to kill that stuff in such a way that I don't hurt the trees as well. The stuff is relentless.Just a bit of wisteria pruning.... Well... a lot really.
It's an almost weekly job from now and into the Autumn.

We are very pleased with our raised beds in the lower part of the yard. The tomatoes are growing like mad, along with the cucumbers and squash. We have a bunch of chard as well. I'm glad they are doing well! We have cabbage planted, but some insect has decimated those plants even though my wife sprays them down with Neem Oil. Next time, I may build a small greenhouse sealed up to keep insects out. It's so frustrating to have a good crop only to have most of it ruined by stupid insects.
We have little caterpillars on the cabbage, and we have tons of Japanese Beetles. The beetles we are capturing in beetle traps, and then we feed them to our chickens. We use diatomaceous earth for the dust baths for our chickens, but we haven't ever used it in the garden. How are you using it? Are you just sprinkling it on the soil around the plants, or do you use food grade and sprinkle it right on the plants? What kind of insects? I only started using diatomaceous earth this season but it has gotten rid of a LOT of pests for me so far. I think part of the key is using it as soon as you notice a pest before they breed and get out of control.

We went to the nursery today and bought some plants and soil. HUGE sale today. We got $30.00 plants for $5.00 each, and bags of 25 cu/ft. of planting soil for under $4.00 per bag. They also had some plants on the $1.00 table there, so my wife picked up some there as well. I have no idea what she bought, but the price was right!
Hot and very humid today. Probably not going to do a whole lot outside today. I don't mind the heat, but we are going out to dinner with some friends later this afternoon, and I don't want to be all tapped out from working in the heat all day.
Same here, daughter bought it for me and the mechanical principle holding it on is never going to work in the long run, the old one slid over the handle which was thicker at the business end, so every use drove it harder homeI really need a new hoe, the one I have the end keeps popping off lol.
