We awoke at 6 a.m. to 53 degrees! Lordy, that felt cold! It's sunny today, and dry as usual. We watered plants, comforted the chilly kittens (they are well furred, but turn on that pitiful kitten look and we are taken in), and then I huddled in the kitchen and made beef broth. A friend recently had a steer butchered, and brought the bones to me. They are roasting in the oven (heavenly smell) and I'll get my big stock pot going soon.
Colin, could you send Blackie to central Texas just for a couple of days? I promise to send him back after we get a good soaking.

Hi,

First thing Bron does every morning is to feed the neighbours cats all of which must have a pretty accurate alarm clock; the cats get salmon whilst I get fish fingers. :)

If Blackie visited you marlingardener I'm sure you wouldn't want to adopt him; a couple of days though would be good for you but unfortunately Blackie has taken a real dedicated liking to me and wants to keep me company every time I go outside; it's now 4:27pm and the usual dreary black hole; the rain has finally let up but would immediately return if I went outside. I'll have another go at digging up more roots in the garden tomorrow; in between downpours this afternoon I really did appreciate the rain falling from the trees each time Gale shook them.

Bron says I should be a weather forecaster but why; it usually rains anyway. :(

It's about 14C here at the moment so a bit warmer than your 11.6C (53 degrees). Being cool isn't a problem keeping dry is.

Kind regards, Colin.

Kind regards, Colin.

Hi,

My pet cloud Blackie paid us a visit during the night soaking everything again now his sister Gale has taken over and she's living up to her name; it's hard enough standing on our steeply sloping garden but the wind makes it very difficult to do anything at all. I seem to have missed summer this year. :(

Kind regards, Colin.

:D Love that sister Gale .. so well named! Hehe!

12 of sunshine... Whoa.. life is so unfair... Happy for you though 29c, we call it hot here and that's a distant memory .. and it killed my Handkerchief tree. My fault.

Have to scroll back to see the photo itself. You could put up some polycarbonate roofing materials (free from double glazing firm) then you can extend your dry area and pretend that it's not raining so badly! ..

Hi,

Many thanks alp for your suggestion. Ideally a huge inverted goldfish bowl right over our bungalow and gardens would be better; I doubt I'll still be around when force fields are reality?

I was set for another miserable wet day when I got up this morning and it was so gloomy and had just started raining; the wind and rain though have finally quit at least until I go up the garden after dinner; the picture below shows how quickly everything dries here on the valley side.

Kind regards, Colin.

@Colin You have a nice touch to your decor - very modern and contemporary .. Lovely house and like the way you designed and built your walls and steps.

14 to 18c but the sunshine seems to be a premium today. Hope the weather report is wrong again.

Hi,

Many thanks alp for your kind comments. It's only taken 30 years to sort our bungalow out to what it is now and at last I'm now free to concentrate on the gardens; I'm hopelessly colour blind so rely a great deal on Bron but we've admired our stately homes and picked up on the colours and panelling plus I even installed a coffered ceiling to our master bedroom. The dry stone garden wall was only 4" from the rear extension so I dug many tons of wet clay out by hand and pushed the wall back adding three lots of steps up to the garden giving a wide pathway and a nice patio; we still retain the original softwood window frames and front door; I've looked after these and they remain as good as new now being over 50 years old; The rear door I made as first job when we moved in. I wonder how many modern plastic frames are going to be around in 50 years? Three years ago I replaced the sealed double glazing units and these were the originals; Bron and I dislike modern plastic window frames etc; we think because one person has them fitted the others feel as if they are losing out; of course we pay our money and take our choice; wooden frames do take more looking after but last year I remodelled the bungalow exterior and used American Benjamin Moore paint which is high end paint at £75 per US gallon; it took five and a half gallons of this paint but the end result is well worth it; I also replaced lots of cladding which saved stripping paint; I used 18mm thick WBP plywood for the new cladding routing to resemble individual boards; the pictures tell the story better. I always take lots of digital images as work progresses then I can refer back if ever needed.

It's very mild here too this morning Logan but with Gale trying to remove the bungalow from the valley side; I thought I had stepped into another country as I went out first thing; no rain at the moment and feeling very warm indeed; it can't last.

I'm a mechanical engineer so enjoyed designing and making the new decking extension with steel railings over the garage doors; I also made the garage doors these being side hung to replace the up and over door. If I'm busy I'm happy. :)

Kind regards, Colin.
