Hi,

It started misty here too Logan but is now a very nice morning. :)

I'm playing with my big boys toys; yesterday I cleared out our old shed and having dismantled it carried it down to the workshop and started to cut it up for firewood; our neighbour with the woodburner collected two full loads very early this morning; I've done lots more cutting and now another load is ready but I think I'll drag the shed base down and cut this up then the final two loads can be collected; it sure made a mess of my workshop but saves disposing of it at our local tip and our neighbour appreciates the firewood; it's amazing how much a small bag of firewood costs out our local stores; I'm pleased to get rid of it our neighbour is pleased to accept it so a win win situation. :D

Cutting underway; I'm using jigsaw; sabre saw and radial arm saw.

That's great Colin, it's good to give it to someone who can use it, whatever it is.

Warming up nicely here, going to do some gardening.

Hi,

Be careful in your garden Logan; we aren't used to sunshine in the UK.

At last the entire shed is converted into firewood; I've just cut the base up; when I lifted the base a mouse shot out at speed disappearing into the laurels; I don't like distressing any little critters; the only things I declare war on are wasps because these are the skinheads of the insect world which sting just for the fun of it.

After dinner I'm tidying up; retirement sure is hard graft. :):)

Kind regards, Colin.

Hi,

It's definitely not like summer Logan because our summers are usually wet; much cooler and miserable. 16C in February; WOW. You're off to a quick start this morning; I'm about to head off to the supermarkets in the fog. :)

Only ten months to Christmas.

Kind regards, Colin.

Hi,

I agree with you Logan; very early morning is the best part of the day; I've often driven over to Rufforth Auto Jumble just as the sun was rising with it on the horizon directly in front of me; it's a magical time of day; peaceful with little traffic; I can set the cruise control and let the car just about drive itself; returning home though is just the opposite.

When I looked up the garden early this morning it was shrouded in thick fog; after breakfast heading to the car at 7:15 the fog had suddenly disappeared up here but was now a blanket in the valley bottom and I was surprised to find the car windscreen frozen; the car was reading -0.5C.

I seem to have been getting up early all my life; 10 years old (1957) and I was out of bed at 4am to do my two paper rounds before going to school. These days you daren't go out when its dark.

I like to do the three supermarkets very early and be back home before 8:30; I take along a wish list in order for each supermarket knowing where the products are so no impulse buying by me. In Morrison's I wanted two small bags of Dreamies these at £1 per bag; I noticed a big bag at £3.50 and was about to spoil all our local moggies but staring at these my head stopped working; small bag 60g at £1 or big bag 200g at £3.50?

Kind regards, Colin.

I think the big bag 200g at £3.50 is the cheapest.

Hi,

Thanks Logan. I was too busy shopping at the time to get my head around the Dreamies weights & prices but knowing Morrison's past history of manipulating their prices of bulk items making them appear cheaper than individual items I didn't trust the price of the larger bag.

3 small bags at £1 per bag = £3 This gives a total weight of 180g?

50p would buy half a small bag hence weight 30g?

180g + 30g = 210g?

The big bags are purposely made to look like the better value and although I only wanted two small bags I felt tempted to pay for the big bag; I wonder how many big bags of Dreamies are sold because of this?

A few years ago I was badly caught out whilst shopping in Morrison's whilst buying apples; I automatically assumed buying loose apples would be cheaper until I reached the checkout; if my memory serves me well I was charged 35p per apple whilst a pack of the same six apples cost £1.60? I thought the pre packaged would be dearer because of the packaging. I've also been caught out with biscuits and even two big boxes ot Terry's chocolates; the chocolates were clearly marked half price; when I checked at home I had been charged full price so I returned the chocolates and at first the lady on the information counter wasn't convinced until I took her to the chocolates on the shelf still showing half price; not even an apology just a sulk. I wasn't given the option of keeping the chocolates at half price. I don't trust Morrison's pricing any longer. Morrison's big bags of Go Cat & Whiskas cat biscuits £5 per bag; round at Home Bargains same size bag £3.99. I wish Morrison's would do away with all their gimmicks like saver stamps and loyalty cards etc; 5,000 loyalty points = £5 voucher? My spend each week at Morrisons twice weekly I'd take around 15 weeks in order to be awarded a voucher.

I'm rambling on as usual whilst I wait for the outside temperature to rise a bit then I'm tidying the garden today. :)

Kind regards, Colin.

Hi,

I too have been in the back garden Logan more up the garden though it being so steep; I've been raking leaves from under the bushes making it look tidier; yes it is warm and I've already covered the car windscreen with an old bed sheet to keep the sun off the leather upholstery; I fold a double bed sheet in half and have tied two strong tapes at the fold corners; these tapes are tied around the front door handles with the fold just onto the roof; the bottom is tucked under the wipers; it's amazing how much cooler the car is inside by adding the sheet. I also treat the leather at least twice yearly. I can always find something to do.

Did Barley supervise whilst you enjoyed your session in the garden?

Kind regards, Colin.

Hi Colin, that's a good idea to cover your car with a sheet. Does it stop the leather upholstery from fading?
It's nice to tidy the garden this time of year.
Yes Barley and Berry supervised me making sure that I don't use the secitures while hubbys away working until later this afternoon.

Hi,

Thanks Logan; I bet you did a good job with double supervision watching your every move. :)

Yes I'm trying to protect the leather upholstery but the sheet would also help with normal upholstery keeping most of the sun from it; its rather like closing the curtains; we also notice the sheet makes a huge difference to the interior temperature the sheet keeping it cooler; it sure works for us and it was just an idea I tried out; strange isn't it how neighbours quickly copy? 18 years ago I removed nine steps and installed a 42' long sloping path making access to the bungalow rear very easy; three neighbours have now copied this; three years ago I designed and erected a decking extension but used heavy steel supports; last year the neighbour at the head of the cul de sac was using a big mobile vehicle with a front lifting arm attached to lift his metal into place; I used a winch attached to an extension ladder; if I erect a flagpole will neighbours then erect one; why can't people think for themselves these days? o_O

Kind regards, Colin.

Very simple method of attaching sheet over windscreen using heavy tape tied in a bow around the front door handles only taking a couple of minutes to put on and remove. The tapes are tied securely to the sheet corners leaving two long loose ends.

The sheet is folded in half and fits perfectly the bottom edges gently tucked under the wipers; a bonus is it cost nothing but works a treat. Our car is a Skoda Yeti.
