JB, you need to enter that photo in the monthly contest--it is gorgeous, so well done, so evocative. You really have an eye for photography!

@JBtheExplorer lovely pic, yes you should enter it in the competition.

I appreciate it! I've entered non-garden photos into the contest before and I've never felt right about it. There is no rule limiting it to garden-only, but it's my own personal rule that I'll only enter photos of my garden.

@JBtheExplorer What are you like? I like your photo too. I wish Ian would let us vote for 3 photos. It's a stranglehold of my goodwill. I love to dish my votes out, but one is a bit tight. Come on, Ian. Let's have 3 choices.

Not bad. But I hope the wind will die down a bit.. It was terrifying last night. The winds woke me up!

I'm so sorry to hear the UK has been suffering such horrid storms! I sympathized with our USA East Coast members without realizing that y'all "across the pond" were having the same bad weather. Ninety-five mph gales winds, and heavy snow? Ghastly!!!
It finally got above freezing here, and the cats are out frolicking after spending two days huddled in the cat shelter and only coming out to eat, drink, and do the necessary.
Tomorrow is to be still warmer, and after I clean house I plan to clean, oil, and sharpen gardening tools in preparation for planting soon.

Most of our rains and storms are remnants of storms from the pond!
To put things in perspective, the snow on the East Coast of the USA, and in the UK, here is what happens in Texas:

One makes snow people out of whatever is at hand.;)

Here, the winds have now gone to the continent

Four people are killed by falling trees as violent gales smash northern Europe, forcing Amsterdam's Schiphol airport to close
  • Two Dutch men, a driver in Belgium and a man at a campsite on Dutch-German border killed by falling trees
  • Amsterdam's Schiphol airport, one of Europe's busiest travel hubs, cancelled all flights amid 86mph winds
  • Videos show people tumbling across the street, lorries toppling on motorways and a roof being torn off
Make sure you watch how the wind swept a man off his feet, literally on his back! Shocking footage!

Hi,

WOW; 70 years young and I still bounce. I set off to the supermarkets just after 7 o'clock this morning whilst it was still dark; at the rear of the bungalow Blackie had done his usual visit and everything was soaking wet; I walked down our sloping flagged pathway to the car and suddenly I was on my back looking at the sky; fortunately I only suffered a bit of skin loss and bruising; the bottom of the path was sheet ice.

The car was iced over and reading 1.5C (34.7F).

Back home after shopping what a lovely surprise when my wonderful Bron had kindly made me a get well card; Bron said she makes so many cards for other people I more than deserved one and the picture below shows the card; as long as Bron is in my life all's well. Bron's just informed me it's starting to snow. :)(y)

Kind regards, Colin.

@Colin that's a lovely card. It's nice to hear or get something even though you both know how much you love each other.

You were lucky, my brother slipped on ice in his garden and had to have surgery on his back. He damaged 2 disc's and had to have them operated on, he's alright now though.

Let's not forget about the super-low temps in Siberia.... https://www.usatoday.com/story/weat...-russia-extreme-cold-temperatures/1039929001/

Excerpt:

The cold did have serious repercussions. Over the weekend, two men froze to death when they tried to walk to a nearby farm after their car broke down. And although students routinely go to school when it's 40 below, school was canceled throughout the region this week.

However, overall, the bitter temperatures didn't faze the hardy residents of Oymyakon (population 500), which is about 3,300 miles east of Moscow. Local officials said Tuesday that all households and businesses in the region have working central heating and access to backup power generators.

Though the official temperature was "only" 74 below on Tuesday, some residents recorded temperatures as low as 88 below at their homes, the Siberian Timesreported. This isn't far from 89.9 degrees below, the coldest-ever officially recorded for a permanently inhabited settlement anywhere in the world and the frostiest in the Northern Hemisphere.
