Was feeding birds along the river yesterday morning and stopped at the Dean House to check their flower garden.

Had a home grown cabbage off a neaghbour up the main road and a lot of cooking apples from a neaghbour up our close, they've got a Bramley apple tree in the back garden. Last year i asked them,if their were too many, I'd have some. Today i got some without asking. That was nice of her.:)

@johnny canoe What is this Dean House? Very nice. Reminds me of the colourful painted house in Halifax. Such a lovely house. I wish the houses in the UK looked like this.. more colours and more style instead of like this

Such a lovely garden, so nice to see your nuthatch and you have company - two black squirrels.. Wildlife can't be closer than this.. I wish I were there!

Nice of her. But if you have a tree full of cooking apples, you do have to give them away. I had to chuck my cooked apples as it tasted too sour even after I used 5 tablespoon of sugar.

@alp that's a shame about your cooking apples. You could have mixed them with some other fruit, perhaps half and half. Did you try what i suggested? By putting a bit of salt in,or put some spice in.

Hi alp, the Dean house was built for superintendent Dean. He was superintendent of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police fort. The little white log shed in the picture is actually the oldest surviving home in Calgary.

Now mentioning log homes. Today I took a different trail in the bush and came across a log home that some squatter has built and has the nerve to put up a sign to keep us away. I'm impressed with his home and the bird house on a pole, but whoever is living in there, better take that sign down. That's public land, unless he's more Indian than I, we have a problem.

I don't remember reading that.. Too late now. It got mould and it went to the compost bin. So no waste.

Are you serious? Can anybody live in a shed like this? There are more than one hole. What if it rains.. Can people claim land just like that?

That white log house looks very new. How old do you reckon it is when you say it is the oldest in Calgary?

No they can't claim land like that. That's why I don't respect that sign. No doubt the person living in there is a homeless person and a bird friendly one. All the logs he used are from the flood that devastated the river along that patch in 2013.

The log house just had the old siding stripped off it and they discovered the original log beams under the old wood shingles. Nicely renovated to it's original look. I believe it was built in the early 1880s. Yes I know that age is nothing compared to the history you have over your way. But remember in the late 1870s there was nothing here but us Indians/Metis, a few Yankee whiskey traders and then a couple dozen mounted police sent to tame us.

I don't think YOU need taming! But that made me giggle!

You shouldn't have put it in the compost bin, it was cooked and it had sugar in it.

Ah, not to worry .. I reckon it must be one of those long replies and I was asked to click to expand. I was so stupid, I didn't know I had to click and expand as usually some texts were short and I could see the replies straight away. So I didn't click and expand and I kept thinking people forgot to reply after quoting:eek: .. I know, it's embarrassing:LOL:, but I have to own up to it:eek:...

OK, Miss, I will behave next time!
