alp was it you who mentioned this plant seems to need the same conditions as Mecanopsis have looked for them but don't seem to be available until later in the year but expensive I have seen seeds to buy but it depends on how long to flower?

Yes, I saw this beauty in Gardeners World or The Beechgrove Garden. I asked what this was as I have never seen anything like this. Now I forgot the name again. I have now 3 or 4 meconopsis growing near my Trollius Chinensis - the only moist and shaded area in my garden. I reckon it won't take over 10 years to flower, unlike Davidia Involucrata. Mine has died this year because of the terrible heat. I had kept it for more than 4 years.:cry::cry::cry: I have picked up quite a few seeds but they will take ages to germinate.

How much are the seeds please? Are they perennial? As long as they are perennial, I will have a go. It's so different.

alp here's a bit of info you only get 6 seeds from plant world seeds
NOMOCHARIS MIXED
£3.95 / packet
In stock

DESCRIPTION
These fabulous plants are breath taking when well grown, with wide-open, frilly, ivory-white flowers, which are usually attractively marked with pink and mauve blotches. They prefer a shady site in well-prepared organic soil for the best performance. These very few fertile seeds are amongst the rarest and most difficult to collect and have been painstakingly collected from Nomocharis findlayorum, saluensis, mairei and others.

SOWING ADVICE
Sow seeds at any time covering them with compost or grit 5mm deep, keeping the seed pot in a cool, well-lit spot outdoors. Artificial heat is not needed and can prevent germination so be very patient as many species will only germinate in the spring after chilling or freezing in the moist seed tray in the winter. Grow on individual seedlings in small pots until of sufficient size to be potted on or planted out into the open ground.

KEY FACTS
Family:Liliaceae

Classification:Hardy bulb, Hardy perennial

Height:30-60cm

Packet Content:6 (Approx)

Thank you. Looks like from Ch..... I won't buy stuff from them again. I wonder if they sell them as a plant or bulb. If it is a lily family plant, should be able to scale the bulb and add to stock very quickly. I have lost my faith in seeds, apart from hibiscus that is. I will do some research .. 6 seeds for £4 is very dear and this probably excludes p&p.

See this bulb here, @Zenj

Nomocharis_oxypetala_insigne_bulb_PW0.jpg

you can scale it and in a few months, you will have bulblets. I might think of buying them, but it was collected by another Frenchman (Davidia Involucrata also collected by the French!) on chalky soil.

I don't have chalky soil. What kind of plants like to grow on chalky soil?

I wonder if we have the right kind of conditions for it

Coming from areas with cold dry winters and summer rainfall, they bloom in summer.

Good morning to all - very cold air outside. Supposed to be 13c and a fine day after that. Grey and breezy.

@Zenj I might buy the bulbs as once I scale them, I might get at least 3 more plants from them. If they are from the lily family, they might even flower the following year. I have some bulblets flowering this year and I only learned the trick last year. They must have been easy to grow as there are quite a few suppliers down south.

@alp why don't you google it? To see what you can grow on chalky soil. Also look at your neaghbours gardens and see what's Growing.
Sunny here at the moment and cold.
