Afternoon everyone. Just got back from my physio. I'm worn out now. Good job that we've walked the boys/dogs. Going to have something to eat, then have a sit down. Watch location location location and fall asleep. Got to water some of the blueberries, their close to the house, don't get a lot of rain.
@tbendl sorry about your summer house.

Hi everyone! Went to Hyde Hall Flower Festival. It's just a glorified plant sales day! Of course, I broke my bank - bought 2 salvias, 4 achilleas, 2 clematises, one Alstroemeria Indian summer, one tall grass, one lobelia perennial. ..

Here are some photos .. Had a very good day. Shame we left in a rush and son suffered a bit of tummy trouble and couldn't take lunch. Came home at 5 and had his meal and now he has passed out. Poor thing!

Love this grass, @Verdun might be able to supply a name.

Initially, I thought they must be very quiet and hence I got an email about the event. The weather has been lovely, apart from an hour or two of hot sun. Very windy though. Hope you can visualise what I have seen. Shame they had no bamboo stands at all. I must have missed the Wisley one. What a shame.

Son is in bed. Worried how he's going to fall asleep tonight.

Bonsai is tricky, isn't it? A man told me his son gave him a bonsai and that it was still alive after 6 months. It turned out that it was a privet! How can you kill a privet?

Does this look familiar, anyone?

Hahaha I have a small privet bonsai....in a stupid looking tourist pot :)....needs shaping but its still alive a year later lol...It was bought for me as a present and I kept it indoors until I learnet what it actually was...it now resides outside and is doing quite well, but I need to re pot it into a more respectable container and learn a thing or two on how to train the thing :)

Twilight Illumination...Today I fitted the Solar Lighting to the pergola..(2 overhead and 2 on the front posts)...I think I have the balance right but may tweak it a little as time goes by (maybe up-light her face a little)....Tomorrow I will try to address the planting scheme utilising what I have round about..but they will need new pots to fit in with the theme....or I may just buy more vegetation lol ..not sure...tomorrow is another day

Good morning to all and especially @Logan I went to bed and of course, he woke up and listened to his macbook on headphone. He's a child at heart and would repeat to me whatever he thought was funny. It's very difficult to feign interest all the times.

Haha! What a good way to start bonsai! A privet in a stylish bonsai dish. You don't really need to change the pot as it looks lovely. In fact, the whole display unit, the bonsai dish and the privet look lovely. Just shape the privet. I might start doing something like that. I really like it. I have some horrible looking bonsai dishes from freecycle. Might as well make use of them.

Simple but effective and lovely display

I think I should stay away from Flower Festival as the cheapest plant is about £2.99 Royal Rumble salvia. £6.50 for a delphinium.:cry:

Poundland was selling Gaura for £1. And this a similar rudbeckia goldstrum or helenium Hoopesii £1 and you can achieve a similar effect. But with so many people there, the atmosphere was just electric and the queue made the experience somewhat masochistic. You queued up for the car to the entrance, and you queued up to the entrance again and the buzz made me lose my good commonsense. I'm going there on 17 for nighttime reduction 50% if I am lucky!

I think I have bought up all the achilleas .. Plants that I love can take the heat, the sun and the drought and yet the display is stunning .. bees love them. I even bought a black sedum for £3.50:eek::cry::LOL:

I love this dainty patches .. the colours, the textures ..

This time, I have discovered some gorgeous agapanthus, the legend from Hoyland was there £10 for 3 tiny plugs .. One thing very interesting was that all the couples were clamping their styles by counting coins.. How else could you stop yourself from haemorrhaging your money? ... Use coins and stop buying when the coins were no more!

I still have no idea if this is a butterfly or milk- weed? One thing for sure is that it is not an Asclepias tuberosa. I have about 10 of the latter dotting around, but they have not flowered and I was so fed up that I bought one in flower. This is a different one, but they were so pretty. A couple bought £12 for 3. I cried blood! I could not find a cheaper one. Might try fleabay again!

This alstro White heart asked for £10..

I want to have every single colour of these echinaceas.

Thalictrum has depreciated by £5. £10 this year.

What you see here is Hyde Hall itself. This grass burst into the scene this year. Saw thing 2 or 3 times this year together with the Sanguisorba, they make a lovely display

@alp glad that your son is ok. They're still worrying even when their grown up. Yes those places aren't cheep with plants. Good that you've got a agapanthus. I started mine in a pot, it likes the roots to be pot bound before it will flower. Then i planted it in the ground and mine is frost hardy. Good pics.

I couldn't afford the agapanthus that I love, but I now have quite a few, including those rescued from the B&Q ones. I have quite a few Donau, Polar ice and something else. The one that I like is called Midnight Dream, very dark and sinister .
