Cheers @alp...I was more than pleased with the results of the first years produce....from the, what was then, a new structure in 2016. so I cant grumble....Lettuce growing in square black guttering with drainage holes drilled underneath was a good idea as they really do over produce...but I made the same mistake this year and planted too many...so lesson learnt for next season...anyone for lettuce ......:)

@BigC the Lettuce looks great.:)I always grow Lettuce leaves.
Hahaha yes @Logan its the easiest thing in the world but I always put too much seed down....must remember to rein back next year...but it tastes delish...One thing I do notice with homegrown lettuce is that it dont keep....When we buy a packet from the supermarket, use a little and store in the fridge....I cant do this with my home produce, it just goes to mush the next morning....must be because of the prolonging shelf life gas they inject into those packets....they could be killing us :) ...anyway home grown always tastes nicer...its not physiological either...I tasted my own toms last year against supermarket tasteless and bland varieties and mine (not blowing own trumpet by any means) were a lot lot better for flavour for some reason

@BigC Yes, I have noticed that as well. The leaves go limp within an hour. Just tell you what refrigeration system they use commercially. You've enough for a village fete! Hahaha!

I need to go out to see if I could sow a bit more. Some will overwinter in my garden even though they are lettuces.

Good work, @BigC and lovely show of your labour of love!

Morning all , how is everyone on this ' was sunny but now grey morning' !

I use to grow edibles when all the ' boys ' were still living at home, but since they flew the nest we now only have fruit. I know you can freeze things, but the whole idea was for freshly harvested produce.
All that faffing around with blanching veg.....not for me!
Use to grow, sweetcorn, peppers, aubergines, courgettes, tomatoes, spinach, chillies and carrots.

What's everyone up to today?.....I off in a little while to my dear dad's to do some bits and bobs over there.

On that note of home grown yummies........

......a Fruitful Friday to one and all:D

Good morning to all!

I'm going to play catch-up and go back a couple pages, since I haven't posted to the thread for a while! :)

Some foreigners (4 of them) asked me, separately, if I wanted to have my front jet cleaned. I just could not get rid of them. In the end, I said I was only a lodger.. so fed up with these people. I said no, and he said he would give me a discount. I said I didn't want to waste his card as it would go straight to the bin, he just would not take no for an answer. In the end, I left it on the ground. You can even weed your garden in peace.

@alp, learn to have fun with it. :ROFLMAO: After the first time they don't take "no" for an answer, wildly wave around whatever garden tool you are holding, and yell ... "Mama, may I dogfoot to the banana patch!!" Then laugh hysterically, (because it would be hilarious, and ) it will make them think you're crazy. Mostly harmless, but crazy just the same. I bet they wouldn't bother you anymore!! :sneaky::devil:

I got a new coleus. :) The colors in the pic are not quite right. :( I took three pictures adjusting settings, "daylight," "cloudy," and brightness levels. That's the best of the three. The outer edges are a deeper green. The bright orangish-red is more of a red red.

OMG How did I ever do with out this item, ... Good Grief I never thought I'd get excited about such a menial product ... cannot comment on the longevity of the parts ....WOW!...£9.99 its a gift.

@BigC, I snipped some bits out, but when I read this, the first thing I thought was that if your luck runs like mine, you ought to go ahead and get two. I have learned that if I really like something, by the time I need a new one it's either twice the price or discontinued. (n)

"Lotus watch 2017" is still underway. Looking forward to a 4 day vacation and I'm hoping I'll have some beautiful blooms to share when I get back on the internet next week.
My new black/red lily has a bud on it as well so fingers crossed we get some pretties!

Beautiful alp, cowboy indeed..looks like a pretty good gunslinger to me :)
those blooms are to die for.
@MaryMary, yes I know what you mean but if I'm careful with this one it should last me...for what I've laid out in hand sprayers over the years I could have had timer based automation :)
@tbendl I too am waiting patiently for this event....
Oh and I forgot to mention I got my little heated propagator this evening...I got a tip from a woman today for fitting her curtains..so I bought the gadget and it cost me nowt...Hows that....expect pic and review in the morning when I've set it all up :) ...I hope to be able to propagate these chilli seeds now....

@MaryMary Nowadays, a lot of people come round to tout for business. In this country, there is an organisation called RSPCA which has it name tarnished for some naughty operations. A week ago, I heard some noise outside my window, I drew the lace curtain and saw them in uniform. I quickly pretended that I was not in and congratulated myself for getting away with being plagued by them.

Several hours later, they knocked at my door again. What a nuisance. They just want my direct debit details. No way am I going to give mine away. These people would sell your details to their fraternity and you will end up with more and more nuisance junk mail. When I was with the other cliquey forum, my details have been circulated amongst several other catalogue and mail order companies i.e. they sold my details to other plant companies and I am on the suckers' list.

Now, I think the best way to get away from having tree felled, or garden paved or any other jobs forced on me is by saying that I am a lodger .. Upon hearing that, they will disappear ...

@tbendl Make sure you take photos when it is just opening ... when it is pristine, perfect ... I haven't seen a lotus for a long time.

@BigC I can't see your passion has swept you off your feet.. That frisson is difficult to capture.. Enjoy it when it teases, pleases ..

@alp, I have never seen one so you'll probably get sick of all the pictures I plan on taking. I'm going to be like that new mom with a hideously ugly new baby who just keeps showing you pictures. LOL
