Very nice pictures zenj :) looks like you've had a good walk this morning, I am not used to scenery being flat, its a bit of a novelty to me . What are the purple and white flowers before the dragaon fly? they ring a bell but its not coming to me.

Looks like bind weed alp, I do like the pure white flowers though. Not so keen on the helenium lollipop doesn't look right. Your hydrangea are coming on nicely, I am surpised they survive down your end, I've just bought agapanthus midnight star, it other name is navy blue. Think I'll get them planted tomorrow.

@Zenj Lilac beauty is a beauty indeed. I have now another one and will take a pic later. I had Paprica and 2 others from Hdye Hall Flower show. Might go to Hillcrest to buy some more (or not as more to water). The only one I have in aplenty is the white one. Too many and too straggly.

The hydrangeas grow everywhere here in Essex, but literally pour water into them. The lovely white purple blue one literally sat in a whole tub of water throughout the winter. The water evaporated about a month ago, such has been the dire lack of moisture and the omnipresence of heat. Never have I seen my hellebore leaves part and show the earth. And I have never spent soooo much time and water on my so-called lawn!

@Perki I bought the midnight star for £1.99 in a 3 or 5L pot. I have split into three pots and 2 are now in flowers. Today I direct broadcast some echinacea purpurea seeds. Collected some stipa gigantea seeds and direct sowed them. Hopefully, they will show up. A tree lily has opened its blooms, in a teasing way! Not a white one:cry: Pink double and will take pics later.

Looks a bit hazy now. But I prefer hazy than full sun! Have a good day everyone. By the way, Wimbledon has pumped The Beechgrove Garden off air!:cry: Very annoying!

Morning all!
A bit of a fresher feel outside this morning.....lovely!

We had to give the garden a absolute soaking last night...we have been watering it regularly too!! I was so surprised to see so many wilting plants when I came home yesterday :cry::eek::cry:!!!

Some of my Gladioli blooms are showing themselves , not actually blooming yet though. But I fear that some might be coming up ' blind'...... is that a possibility????

A bit more cleaning at my brother's today in preparation for his move next week........at long last the end is now in sight(y)

It will be strange to have some ' spare time'....looking forward to It!

Have a brilliant day everyone!:)

Good morning, @Upsy Daisy !

Such a busy life you have. Brother, sis and dad! That's why I'm always counting my blessings.

I have been debating myself whether to water the green bits or brown bits or cracks in my lawn.:cry:

Seeing @Zenj 's lovely achillea, I want to kick myself for letting the three beautiful ones die .. Off to see if the daphnes are reduced. I am not being funny. Being charged £4 for one stem is excessive. I will see if they reduced them by half. So tempted by the Austin Roses last week, but having a £10 Arthur Bell died on me, I am not so sure. Don't think it will come down more than a tenner. Another loss of tenner is careless! Need to water the plants in the lean to as it will be an oven!

Bet it must be lovely in Zenj Land where it hits 20c, with clear blue sky .. A day to rejoice if we don't think about the temperature. The whole British isles are under azure blue!

Hi there @alp :)
You're being brave buying, or even considering to buy new plants!
Sadly I am having massive difficulties keeping the ones I have alive in this heat:(

Chucking a handful of seeds about is as near to new plants as I will get :D:ROFLMAO:

Seeing the lovely blooms of others makes me weep :cry::cry:

Pity tears are salty, otherwise we could use them for watering:LOL:

Anyway I'm off for a day of cleaning fun, speak later

Have a great day:)

Have just come back from my beloved nursery. Oh, dear! There were battles raging in my mind. Should I buy or not? Which one?

First in question: Primula candelabras - one purple and one yellow. After much mental discussion/debate/discourse, I bought the yellow one which, believe it or not, is still flowering.

Another one to sneak into the nursery bed.

Glad that my head ruled instead of my heart. The purple has gone to seeds, no flowers to enjoy whatsoever.

Went to diy store and it saddened me that this was not a bargain

£2.50 for a darker delphinium which I love so much

I had another struggle/saga between hydrangea Kardinal and French Cancan. After much to and fro - went back again and again, (son never moans, ex would explode!:LOL:, but he gave me the money as I got him a free lawnmower!) and I opted for French Cancan. It has serrated bracts.

This cost me a princely sum of £6. The original asking price is £19.99, but as there was only one, I went for this one instead of the red Kardinal. There were several of those. Hopefully, I can pick it up cheaper next time.

Hopefully Curly Sparkler will come down in price

I know. But it's going to be my weekly trip and I so look forward to it. Thank heavens son is quite accommodating.

Saw the 'Walther Funcke' the nursery and suddenly realised my £2 investment is still sound. I divided the pot into 3 and the main one is now dead as dodo

Have no idea what this beauty is called. Most elegant of all!

I think this is Mr Funcke?!

According to Crocus, he is Mr Funcke

According to Ashwood nurseries, he is Mr Funcke

Now, have I got a Mr Funcke or not??:eek::LOL:

To top the confusion. I saw a pot in which an altroemeria was poking its milking shoot. I left it on a slab to prevent slug damage. Just now, I saw a silvery trail and saw a slug. I poked with a stick and it disappeared. I then upturned the WHOLE POT. And the blessed nemesis was nowhere to be found. I grabbed a handful of ash and dusted the whole area. Another area to water tomorrow.

According to my receipt, I saved £33.46 today!:LOL:! Yes, right. Who would pay £19.99 for a hydrangea!?

That's for a laugh. That place always marks things up! I really like achilleas. Come to think of it, 3 years ago, I hated it as I had the white ones and they were everywhere. Now I just can't get enough of them. Off to watch GW ,,, The man like orchid just took my breath away!

Had the day off today so pottered round the garden. Got the two agapanthus navy blue planted, had to find new homes for the aquilegia which they replaced. Cut off all the seed heads off the aquilegia before they take over. replaced a primula millers crimson with primula vailli, I do like millers crimson but it not as good / big as primula bullesiana, MCrimson flowers earlier as well so it doesn't match up with other plants.

Watched the footy france v argi and had a walked round and admired the roses :) then planted the melons in the GH border, hopefully they do better this year. Tidy up the greenhouse it was a tip where empty pots and just been thrown around. Potted on a monarda scorpion and acotium stainless steel and planted up a small pot with petunia and lobelia. Been testing the strawberries ;) which variety taste best, had my first raspberry as well it tasted ok but very dry. Sister been round and stole some currants / gooseberries, says she making jam

Watched the other footy match and back out into the GH while the weather had cooled down enoguh to sit inside and prick out the wallflowers and some bedding stocks. Like everybody else been round watering the pots.
