If your struggling to grow Lupins BigC try Baptisia australis which is blue but they is also yellow / white / chocolate brown / purple blue colour, the flowers look similar to lupin but aren't attacked by slugs. It the same with delphiniums, Aconitums are a good alternative.
Evening all
I wouldn't say struggling to grow Lupins @Perki..more impatient lol
Well we went to Homebase this evening as I needed some cheap timber to make some apple crates and lo and behold the skies opened and on came the thunder and lightening...I needed a plant pot and some Ericaceous compost and they shut and locked the doors leading to the GC...I was well annoyed as company policy dictated that they would not let anyone out during inclement weather..my skin is waterproof to a degree ...even more annoyed when the jobsworth turned up...whats up with this poxy cotton wool society...I purchased Miracle Gro Grass feed and some timber....eventually the doors opened after the shower of rain and I eventually got my pot and compost
Yes they had some nice Lupins, on the turn, and still they were looking £11.50 a pot...
Please tell me someone...how long does it take from seed to fill a 3ltr pot to a mature plant

@BigC , not sure if this will be of help but this is now a huge plant that I grew from seed, this is their 2nd year now....so they grow quickly !!
This is just one single plant here! And we never have a slug or snail problem ....and , touch wood,..so far no Lupin aphids either

I know!! This one obviously finds it the ideal growing conditions , we have several more in other places too but although they are doing well too they aren't quite as huge as this one. I cut off all the fading spikes last week and within a few days a whole lot more appeared, but the 2nd lot don't grow quite so tall.......but I'm not complaining:D:ROFLMAO:.

@Logan Don't talk to me about alstroemerias. I am :cry::cry::cry::cry:! Went to the market and saw Alstroemeria and asked the boy how much. He told me £2 sale and there were several of them. I heart nearly stopped as they would be priced £9 to 13 in GC and £15 in Homebase! They are in huge 3 to 5L pot! I had no cash and he would take no less than a tenner. I told him I would go and get it tomorrow. Hope they will still be there!.

Watched 50 minutes of GW and really like the way Nick, Carol presented the plants - instead of using empty praise, they literally talked about how to take cuttings and talked about useful info about the plants. Don't know why Joe Swift is now so important. He seems a bit disingenuous.

Brilliant, @Upsy Daisy ! Mine was 1/3 of the size of yours. You're so lucky to have got that seed. Way to happiness! If I had a lupin like this, I would show more respect. Mine didn't come up. They were here last year, two of them and looked ever so pathetic. I have a bonfire going and it was so hot! Hope it hasn't toasted my dahlias or salvia Hotlips.
