Is that like 100 usd? Where I live, a quid is the spent tobacco chewings from an elderly farmer or the cud chewing of a cow. Why does it have the oral connection in either case? I am at the cusp of a mystery, please explain?

Quid, as in slang for money, derives from the latin phrase 'quid pro quo' which means 'this for that'. The other meaning of quid is a variant of 'cud', which has its origins in old English. As far as I can tell the etymology is not related :)

Monetary slang words which are no longer relevant .

We don't say

"Sov" any more for a pound.

"half a bar," for ten shillings.

"Dollar," for five shillings

"half a dollar, since half-crowns disappeared
.
"florins," (not actually slang) for a 2/- piece or 10p now.

A "bob" for a shilling, now 5p.

A "tanner," 6d.

Then there was "thruppenny bits" for 3d.

Everything is "pees" now which is so naff.

As an ex-Londoner. I'd say all those words were in use in my youth, not by everyone, but even if you didn't use them you knew what they meant.
Some are still in use.

Nicker for £1.

Ton for £100.

Pony for £25

Monkey. for £500.

Many of them are from Cockney rhyming slang, but not exclusive to them.

I didn't do anything in the garden today, I played golf, first time for a week but I had a chat with the head green keeper whilst he was on the course. He'll always stop whatever bit of equipment he's driving to talk to you if you want him to. As far as lawn treatment is concerned I always follow him, in that I treat it when I see he has treated the greens. I'd noticed that the greens were a bit greener today and asked him what he'd done as I thought it a bit early. He told me all he'd done was to add a bit of treatment to them, just to green them up a bit as they looked a bit dull after all the snow, it was just a bit of cosmetics and wouldn't have been of much benefit to the roots.
I'm going to wait until mid-April before I do the lawn.

I've been bangin' on about getting a soluble weed feed and moss kill. I don't like the granular stuff as it's easy to burn the grass.

B&Q have it still on their website, but it's discontinued and they haven't had any stock for two years.

But Homebase stock this and it's only ten minutes down the road from us.

I've used Evergreen in the past Sean, it's pretty good. So is the grass seed. :)

Nothing wrong with Evergreen products. I just wish they still made their two part weed, feed and moss kill. You had two different sachets you had to mix. I've always found the granule spreads a bit hit and miss and when I've used them it could never manager an even distribution as you can with a soluble one in a watering can with a suitable wide diameter rose.

The sachets contained a fine powder, which can become airborne, maybe it was considered an 'elf n' safety problem.

Our clematis arrived from Taylors today in a nice sturdy carton.

I'm quite pleased with these, all doing well. The two centre ones, Westerplatte and Starlight, were the two "cheapos" at a fiver each. I've removed the plastic and given them a drop of water. I'll keep then in the shed next to the window for a couple of weeks.

"Suzy" from Taylors enclosed a compliments slip and a catalogue of their whole range.
My wife looked through it earlier today, I've noticed some "ticks" against one or two, but she hasn't mentioned anything yet.
