Yesterday I planted a double row of broad beans. I am keeping the rest to plant in pots come Feb or so. I had a bumper crop three years ago, and filled the freezer, pretty much failures the last two years. First was snow which partly melted and then froze hard, broad beans are pretty hardy, but even they couldn't take that. The next year I tried growing in buckets, thinking I could pop them in the greenhouse if it got really bad, but there was not enough root room and I got a lousy crop. Need a good crop, the freezer is almost empty of them.
I also planted a row of Lobjot lettuce, don't know how they will do, the seed is a bit old, but I have plenty of room this time of year so why not?
Rain yesterday, today and last night. little two leaf seedlings popping up like mad, ran a hoe round when it dried a bit this afternoon. Other than that I have been mostly cutting up firewood for the stove. Also sorted out my seed box, good rainy day job.

Drum roll please!

I fixed the Rototiller! Yeah!

I made sure to oil that new bearing and will try to make it last longer.
Thanks to a local guy, he had a friend in the supply chain and got me two bearings.
The manufacturer is still listing out of stock.

Three hours in today with "Patches the Rototiller."

Harvested what I could and removed 4 Roma tomatoes. Starting to clean out for the year. I really dislike this part of gardening not the cleanup but the fact that I wont be able to garden. Only fun part is planning out the expansion and what new to try out next year.

They did very well and made it through the season. I thought these were determinate. The plants grew extremely well. They got out of control and grew like a weed on the ground. The stems that rooted had larger tomatoes.

Picked the last aubergines and peppers and started taking the plants out of the greenhouse, emptying the pots in a place that needs a bit of building up and cleaning them, putting plants in compost, canes in greenhouse roof, still some to do tomorrow.

Finally my wife seen me down and her and my Granddaughter got me up. My wife said before I do anymore get my phone and Cane.

So got my phone and Cane and finished.

Fine, sunny and quite warm. But far too wet to do any gardening. We've had so much rain in the past few days, my golf course has been closed since Friday, as some fairways are flooded. It will also likely be closed tomorrow.
Like the several Mersey Valley golf courses, it has lateral streams by the side of some of the fairways. These drain into the Mersey. There are sluices where the streams drain into it.
When the river reaches above the level of the sluices, the river water pressure closes the gates, preventing more water entering, thus protecting housing further down.
But the water still enters the streams, forcing the levels to rise and overflow onto the golf courses. As soon as the level of the river drops, it is usually below the level of the sluices, so they open and the golf courses quickly drain.

Our mimosa I noticed was waving around in the wind yesterday.
On inspection this morning I found its bamboo support pole had snapped.

I was surprised the plant hadn't snapped too, although there are restraining wires attached to the lateral ones between the fence posts.

I had to make a temporary repair.

It's OK for now but I'll get a stronger cane for it tomorrow and swop them over.

It's not a music forum but I can't help myself.
