Just stood and looked at it, too wet to do anything. Still I quite like how our garden looks when it's raining.

I'm very happy the way this new paved area drains even when it's raining . It's only loose laid flags on twenty tons of "whacked down" hardcore on top of the old pool's sand and cement screed base, five feet down, through which I drilled several 1" holes. So I guess it ought to!

Made this frame yesterday to protect my wife's blueberries from the birds, from stuff I found in the garage and shed.
Some speed-fit pipe, some canes, garden wire, insulating tape and a bit of the net I used to cover the koi pool in the Autumn to keep the leaves out of it.
It's easy enough to lift off if necessary.

Dead-headed the last rhodo.

Also put some wire round it to encourage it to "straighten up" a bit. I'll take it off next Spring.

Layered a couple of low branches on the rhodo to its left.

The weight of the blooms makes it hang over the edge of the lawn which encourages moss.

Its hot and that means pea planting time for my garden. I use various cow peas as soil builders and weed inhibitors in summer. Pictured below is today's four rows of planting in what was previously green beans and pinto beans.

After the potatoes were harvested about three weeks ago, I followed that up with these peas.

Onions and carrots and radishes were harvested about four weeks ago from these rows which now have peas about 3 feet high and packed so tightly no weed can possibly survive. I will mow/shred these and allow to reseed and repeat at least twice before frost makes this ground prime for fall winter garden.

I'm afraid to ask...but what is a "nursery pea" ? I plant crowders, black-eyes, purple hulls, zipper...and of course have planted snow peas and Austrian peas in winter, but nursery peas?

Dead headed a couple of rhodos in the front garden.

We bought these six hebes last year from Wyevale, they weren't cheap.

I pruned them back at the beginning of the year as they looked rather poorly looked more dead than alive, with mostly dead branches. Two snuffed it. But three have recovered and are doing well.
I put two back in the middle of these troughs and added other new ones from Parker's to go either side.

Another went on the top of the rockery.

The jury's out on this one.

I do need to get into the rockery and weed out some bits of grass. A case of parting the flox and getting at it using a half inch wood chisel as a trowel. Why is it grass will always grow where you least want it to?

Hi,

Did the usual three supermarkets this morning back home by 8:30. Visited Hampson's Garden Centre; Wakefield and bought four Ajugas. Back home and plant the Ajugas and I've just finished trimming our laurels. I feel tired out and this is retirement at its best?

Sad to say I declared nuclear war on chipmunks. They are destroying plants by building their condo development entrances at the base of my plants. Some are suffering ! Buds are forming in the perennials and we've actually had some sun.
