Hi,
We had two inches of water on the patio this afternoon, it took two hours for it to drain away through the drain holes in the surrounding walls, once it had stopped.
Bron and I suffered many years of our patio flooding like yours Sean but the person/s who laid our patio laid it with the slope towards our back door; on a bad day the water could reach 5" deep; we had to go out and brush the water into the garden.
I finally got around to sorting it once and for all; the first thing I did was pull up the patio and dig out to add the slope towards the side garden and this worked OK. Next we suffered water ingress under the bungalow so I declared war on this water problem. I bought a cement mixer and installed flood defences; Under the patio I dug out a trench against the bungalow foundations and lined the trench bottom with 4" thick concrete adding a slope away from the door; next I built two shallow walls using engineering bricks to form a wide channel; at the end of the channel by the garden I added a 4" dia soil pipe running this down the side of the bungalow allowing any water gaining access to the channel to drain away safely; it was very hard heavy work but no flooding since.
Kind regards, Colin.
Why not do a bit more grafting; my answer to our flood problem; I replaced the original soil pipes too; all this is beneath our patio; the course of engineering bricks to the right are laid to seal the leaking wall to foundation joint; I went to a great deal of time and trouble but it's been worth it. We have a big very steep rear garden which discharges water straight down to the bungalow.
