Hi,

We had a bit more snow than you Logan it being white over making it a winter wonderland; the roads on our private estate were treacherous but most of the other roads were clear so no problems shopping this morning; well just one problem because i think I offended three ladies in a car in Aldi car park; their car pulled alongside rather quickly and after a shunt it was parked; two elderly ladies exited and I felt a thud; I dropped my window and said I thought I felt a thud and climbed out to have a look; no damage at all so my mistake and I apologised; the younger lady driver put her nose in the air saying there's plenty of room before striding off in a huff. The thud I felt must have been one of their car doors being closed but it was worth checking anyway so a good start to the day. :)

It feels a bit warmer today than yesterday but I think more snow is forecast?

Kind regards, Colin.

I bought a small electrical heater and put it in my work shed but it was still too cold to work out there. Monday I received a piece of furniture that was packed in 1” styrofoam sheets. I used the sheets to close off the roof vents and yesterday it was toasty warm inside there with an outside temperature of 21f. I’m back in business! :)

Here is a website that ranks all the USA weather services by their respective accuracy. No doubt there is a similiar service for euro-friends, possibly even on the site, but I have not delved that deeply into the site yet.

Hi,

Well done Silentrunning. I spent half an hour in the workshop this afternoon removing the chassis from a Barker 88 vintage radio but felt too cold to carry on; the heater needs a bit of time to make any impression and I was too cold to wait; tomorrow I plan to spend more time in the workshop and will let the heater do its job; I'll feel warm enough once I receive the electricity bill.

I think here in the UK DM that the BBC has the largest weather forecasting site so they make the largest mistakes. :)

Kind regards, Colin.

Hi,

Definitely cold here with frost Logan hovering around 0C.

I've just come out of the workshop feeling too cold to do anything; yesterday I removed the chassis from our Barker radio and this morning reinstalled it; just standing around playing with this vintage radio was proving more punishment than pleasure and when things are like this nothing goes to plan. I re-veneered this radio years ago using Burr Walnut with hot hide glue; I think the shock of summer arriving last year and remaining with us longer than the usual two days has caused the veneer to develop lots of small splits which I find annoying because it looked beautiful when first done. My chum David generously gave me the radio knowing I was capable of restoring its cabinet whilst David ensured the chassis was in working condition. I knew it had a pair of diodes to replace the rectifier valve but the Trader 747 service sheets I have show a totally different valve layout and this has a number of different valves; it's too cold to be playing around like this so now the radio is back up in the bungalow. I'd enjoy a session woodturning but everything I touch is cold in the workshop so I'll take a short retirement until middle of next week when the thermometer decides to raise above freezing. I'm not complaining because we did enjoy a summer last year and now in winter it's expected to be cold.

Kind regards, Colin.

The Barker 88 vintage valve radio in all its glory; when I did the veneering I replaced the boring plain veneer with this Burr Walnut Veneer improving its appearance considerably.

The Barker cabinet as I was kindly given it; not difficult to improve on this?

The rear view after the full restoration; French polish is the finish. I'm just passing a bit of time away on the keyboard rather than moaning about the weather. Not exactly on topic but it is weather related; had it been warm and sunny I wouldn't be sitting here.

I suppose it is weather related. It's sunny here, the sun is shining through the patio doors into the dining room where i like to do my cards on the table. But it's too sunny and i can't see what I'm doing. Now do i leave it till tomorrow or close the curtains, then the room will get cold. :)

Hi,

You can't win can you Logan? I've got some wallflowers and pachysandra in plastic pots outside but I don't fancy being frozen whilst I plant them in the garden; the pots will most likely be frozen anyway; I thought perhaps these would be better in the garden because the roots will be frozen solid in the exposed pots; they'll have to wait a few days before I have a look at them. The garden still has lots of frost on it.

Bron sits on the chesterfield sofa by our front room window to make her cards; if the sun is troubling her she drops the blackout roller blinds and there's a double wall light just above her head so she can carry on making the cards. :)

Kind regards, Colin.

No i can't Colin, :) check on your wallflowers, if they are frozen try and put them somewhere else. If they're frozen for days they could run out of water and die. I've had the same problem with mine. Had to bring them in the garage:)

Hi,

Thanks Logan. I've just come down from the mountain feeling perished having solved the problem. The plants were frozen into their plant pot as expected so now they are planted in the garden; the soil part way up the garden had lost its covering of frost and was perfect for planting in; the frozen plants came out of their pot with just a tap; no worry about crumbling compost but it sure was cold up there. I can now relax job done. :)

What an orrible picture DM; fortunately there are few snakes here in the UK other than the two legged types which abound in great quantities; I should hate such a visitor ringing our door bell. :(

Kind regards, Colin.
