@Colin I realized as I wrote my post that there were going to be many here that would love to have the little rain we are having. I still am very sick of it. I really don't care about the rain just all the trees falling over and large branches coming down. We had about 25 trees go on our property, one hit the electric line at the pole and almost burned our house down..REALLY... another one hit our car and 2 went down in our driveway. We had one cut down before it crashed into our bedroom...

That's what I hate....

You must learn to kill trees if you love them. If not as they age they will try to kill you.

Hi,

I can fully understand your anger and frustration regarding the amount of rainfall you endure waretrop. (y)

I can be flippant because here in West Yorkshire UK when it's not raining as it is doing again today it's sleeting; snowing or hailing; this year we've enjoyed a very rare decent summer the first for many; many years. It's now 9:32am and I've just done the ironing having to do it in our kitchen with all the lights switched on because its so dark and wet outside.

Bron and I too have suffered lots of water damage to and around our property; six weeks after moving here into our dream bungalow two ceilings were badly damaged by water ingress through the roof; we were fully insured with Legal & General insurance company who sent their loss adjusters to assess the damage; we were told to get lost because they declared the damage was due to lack of maintenance; yes we've suffered we now hate; dispise and distrust insurance companies; it took us 18 months working all hours to gather enough money to buy roofing materials and we installed the new roof ourselves with absolutely no outside help. Living here on the steep valley side we are subjected to extremes of weather; like you waretrop we too have had trees brought down and also in heavy rain the water heads at high speed to the valley bottom but we've suffered water damage under the bungalow.

It's pointless moaning about it we just do all the work and repairs ourselves; I installed new flood defences to divert rainwater away from the bungalow foundations; I've felled and disposed of 80' tall trees; it's just a way of life here; today I looked forward to a day in the workshop but looking out of our windows it's the usual gloom and doom as the rain comes down and it's so dark even with lights on. I've even got my two chums Blackie and his sister Gale; when Blackie isn't trying to wash the bungalow down the valley Gale tries to blow it down; but two days each year it's absolutely beautiful living here? :)

Above is a link to show the regular weather nearby but the whole of the UK suffers flooding; what is disheartening if you watch the video is the pitiful amount of money spent helping these flood victims and once it floods in one area a week later the circus moves to another disaster? These flood victims are forgotten once the media moves on.

Wherever they occur these disasters are most unpleasant especially if loss of life is involved.

I hope you don't suffer further weather damage waretrop.

Kind regards, Colin.

Bottom half of trunk..jpg

One of our 80' tall trees I felled the bottom of the trun being cut into logs for our neighbours woodburners; each section looks small but were so heavy I couldn't lift them on my own.

Bricklaying 25 05 2013 (1).JPG

I designed and installed new flood defences; these are below our kitchen window; heavy rain discharching down our big steep rear garden is arrested by the new channel and diverted down the bungalow side the end of the channel being connected to a 4" diameter soil pipe; please note the fully bedded course of engineering bricks at the wall/foundation joint; no more water under the bungalow floors. All the work and planning I did myself with Bron's full support; not a job I'd like to do again.

Tree felling Oct 2012. (10).jpg

Here's the 80' tree shown above where I'm cutting its trunk; good job I felled it up the garden because otherwise it would have flattened the roof above the kitchen; felling was quick and easy; cutting the trunk and getting rid of the brash was the hard part.

Just a normal day here;

Wow @Colin I just looked at your annual average rainfall. It's about 800 mm per year. Our annual average is 3200 mm per year. This year we are at 4060 mm so far. We have already had 350 mm in Dec so far. On July 22 we had 350 mm in a 24 hour period.

That's what I am talking about. We usually don't have so much rain. We are worried what our winter will bring in snow and sleet. @Colin after comparing our 2 locations I can't believe we are having it so bad. We over here, always talk about all the rain you all get. ;)

Hi,

What state do you live in waretrop apart from full time under water please? (y)

We live very near "The Pennines" making weather forecasting very unpredictable; your rainfall at 3200mm per year compared to our (?) average of only 800 mm per year means you must live under water full time? As an example; last year it seldom quit raining here being miserable all year; even here in Huddersfield the weather varies wildly; 3 miles away it can be a glorious summers day but pouring with rain here; the temperature too varies a great deal. from village to village. :(

Do you travel by boat? :)

I thought Seattle was one of the wettest places in the US;

I'd like to wander down to the workshop but don't fancy another soaking and it's so dark too; it's been dark all day again. At 3,200mm rainfall per year waretrop you've got my deepest sympathy.

Here's something interesting;

Our average rainfall for the last 8 years has 126 inches, 3200 mm ...a year...according to the national weather service.

I am not here for a spitting match. I am just saying I am tired of all the rain...

Hi,

Thanks waretrop; I wondered where you were given the huge amount of rainfall you endure especially since a quarter of the amnount keeps the rain falling here. It must never stop raining for you. :(

Kind regards, Colin.

LOL! I live in Alabama so even in a dry summer it shows us as no lower than 6 on the summer list. I believe I will send an email to thefootball coach Nick Saban. If he were aware, I am sure he could figure a wayto get Alabama to number 1. But then, I do look at weather through crimson glasses. Red sky at night, red sky in the morning etc.

We are pushing to 1524 mm for the year this year. 60 inches = 1524 mm

I am in NEPA. We had 5 inches, 127 mm, of rain in the last 2 or 3 days. The only good thing is that we have part sunny days like most of today. That felt good and made me happy..Still scared more trees are going to come down.

Hi,

Similar here too Logan today but first thing this morning the car was frozen after an overnight frost.BRRRR it's still white over.

WOW I'm glad I don't live near waretrop; our rainfall is bad enough but 3,200mm rainfall a year is off the scale.

Soon be springtime though to look forward to; some of our daffodils and crocus are already appearing which cheers me up no end at this time of the year.

Usually I'm moaning about the weather and in particular our long miserable dark winters but it's been a lot different this year; we've enjoyed a good long summer so the run up to Christmas seems a lot shorter than normal and we are even past our shortest day; whoopee. :)

Kind regards, Colin.

It's not very cold, good thing because our boiler packed up on Christmas day, friday someone is coming to look at it.
It's still under warranty and had it serviced in october.
