Hi,
I can fully understand your anger and frustration regarding the amount of rainfall you endure waretrop.
I can be flippant because here in West Yorkshire UK when it's not raining as it is doing again today it's sleeting; snowing or hailing; this year we've enjoyed a very rare decent summer the first for many; many years. It's now 9:32am and I've just done the ironing having to do it in our kitchen with all the lights switched on because its so dark and wet outside.
Bron and I too have suffered lots of water damage to and around our property; six weeks after moving here into our dream bungalow two ceilings were badly damaged by water ingress through the roof; we were fully insured with Legal & General insurance company who sent their loss adjusters to assess the damage; we were told to get lost because they declared the damage was due to lack of maintenance; yes we've suffered we now hate; dispise and distrust insurance companies; it took us 18 months working all hours to gather enough money to buy roofing materials and we installed the new roof ourselves with absolutely no outside help. Living here on the steep valley side we are subjected to extremes of weather; like you waretrop we too have had trees brought down and also in heavy rain the water heads at high speed to the valley bottom but we've suffered water damage under the bungalow.
It's pointless moaning about it we just do all the work and repairs ourselves; I installed new flood defences to divert rainwater away from the bungalow foundations; I've felled and disposed of 80' tall trees; it's just a way of life here; today I looked forward to a day in the workshop but looking out of our windows it's the usual gloom and doom as the rain comes down and it's so dark even with lights on. I've even got my two chums Blackie and his sister Gale; when Blackie isn't trying to wash the bungalow down the valley Gale tries to blow it down; but two days each year it's absolutely beautiful living here?
Above is a link to show the regular weather nearby but the whole of the UK suffers flooding; what is disheartening if you watch the video is the pitiful amount of money spent helping these flood victims and once it floods in one area a week later the circus moves to another disaster? These flood victims are forgotten once the media moves on.
Wherever they occur these disasters are most unpleasant especially if loss of life is involved.
I hope you don't suffer further weather damage waretrop.
Kind regards, Colin.
One of our 80' tall trees I felled the bottom of the trun being cut into logs for our neighbours woodburners; each section looks small but were so heavy I couldn't lift them on my own.
I designed and installed new flood defences; these are below our kitchen window; heavy rain discharching down our big steep rear garden is arrested by the new channel and diverted down the bungalow side the end of the channel being connected to a 4" diameter soil pipe; please note the fully bedded course of engineering bricks at the wall/foundation joint; no more water under the bungalow floors. All the work and planning I did myself with Bron's full support; not a job I'd like to do again.
Here's the 80' tree shown above where I'm cutting its trunk; good job I felled it up the garden because otherwise it would have flattened the roof above the kitchen; felling was quick and easy; cutting the trunk and getting rid of the brash was the hard part.
Just a normal day here;
