Well the predicted snow finally came. With a vengeance.

Very pretty Silentrunning and very tempting to spoil it with footprints. :)

The last few days here have been mild around 5-7C/41-45F. That in turn has brought gloomy days and some rain. The temperature is starting to drop again which generally means frost and sunshine - much better. At the moment snow is promised here for next weekend. Top temperature today 4C/39F.

Sunrise: 8.47 am
Sunset: 3.34 pm

Another two days and the lack of daylight hours will come to a standstill here. A week or so and it will start to open up again. (y)

Hi,

Thanks for your concern Gail; yes I take lots of safety precautions whilst pottering around; I recently bought a Trend Airshield helmet; for years I've used the dust masks which generally liked to mist up my glasses; the last box of dust masks I bought I had difficulty breathing wearing one of them it seemed to cut off my air supply leaving me gasping for breath so enough was enough. I'm not totally happy with the Airshield and think the battery and filters would be better worn on a belt around my waist but I had to do something because a new pair of lungs isn't an option so I accept the small problems with good grace.

Our car too lives on the driveway but given the dire weather I've not been able to wash it but it's not raining at the moment; if it remains fine after dinner I think I'll give it a good wash. A couple of days ago the tyre warning icon lit up on the dash indicating a tyre problem? Back home I checked the tyres; all four were down only 1.5psi but I've brought them back up to pressure; modern cars are excellent but their electronics can mislead; I've seen the icon light up whilst all tyres have been perfect. Bron and I are driving over to visit friends in Hull on Tuesday so the car will end up just as dirty again. The car's a Skoda Yeti and it feels like I'm washing a bus.

Waking up at 7am Gail? I'm up every morning at 6am to make a brew for Bron and I which I take back to bed then we get up at 7 o,clock to see what the day is going to throw at us. :)

Everything outside is soaking wet Logan after the deluge over the last couple of days; light rain is something my pet cloud Blackie doesn't understand. :D

I don't really know what it's been doing this morning because I've been so busy in the workshop; the workshop is our garage and has a pair of side hung doors with obscured wired safety glass but I could see it was dark again; usually I can see a waterfall down the glass.

Dinner time so another morning has slipped by; more workshop after dinner if I'm not car washing so the weather can please itself. (y)

Kind regards, Colin.
Hi Colin,
Elements can be dangerous as we both know...my hubby uses face masks and as one of those face covers but doesn't like it, I've tried on a face mask and like yourself found it hard to breath it was soon removed and if he sprays.

Yes I've read you've washed your motor mate ...it's the memories in the motor's today my hubby as a T4 which checks the lot out and the injectors but I did laugh regarding your Skoda Yeti being like a bus...we have a landy 2 and he gets the steps out and when he's messing by the engine  but we have an MG 190 which is going as he's brought a Rover 75 estate as he's with a club who do events 5 times a year and they work on one another's motors electric's the lot besides T4 being there...he washes them as he said the grit and crap from the rain ruins the paint.

You only wake for a brew but you actually get up half hour before me ;)

Nice to hear you add a good day of it though (y)

Hi,

Thanks Gail. (y) In my early twenties I owned my own garage business and later sold it but since we bought our first new Nissan Micra around 1990 I no longer play around with cars just needing to keep them clean and top up the washer bottle; I don't even check the oil because cars these days unless worn out seldom need topping up and they don't leave puddles where they've been standing; just a car service once a year then when the car is three years old trade it in; I still struggle to get time in the workshop though because being retired is a full time job with no holidays. :D

7C for us Logan today; it felt cold whilst I did the shopping this morning first thing. I wandered up the garden yesterday and am pleased to see more Crocus pushing through; the Lupins I planted failed miserably and of the 50 Gladioli only about ten appeared and these were battered by high wind and suffered drought which is rare given that last year the only time it stopped raining was to give way to sleet; snow and hail; typical though of my luck to spend £hundreds in the garden for a drought to hit us; I tried using the hose but the water just headed at high speed down the valley; carrying lots of water up the mountain almost put my light out so I stopped doing it; I've since planted a number of evergreen ground cover and these appear to have taken; Vinca and ground cover conifers seem happy here; I planted four Hydrangeas but these aren't happy at all with only one poor specimen showing any life. At the top of the garden I've planted a long row (60') of Potentilla and Skyrocket conifers in a hit and miss pattern; fingers crossed these will survive; lots of Primroses; all the ten Hostas and even a number of Pachysandra have died; furtunately I'm better in the workshop or grafting on the bungalow. :)

Kind regards, Colin.

Hi,

Bron and I were up by 6 o'clock this morning; we're shortly heading over to Hull to visit our best friends taking along the Christmas pressies and of course metal spun items from my workshop to show my chum whilst the girls have a good natter; fingers crossed the motorways will be clear without the usual speed restrictions of 40 & 50mph.

It's still dark here but not raining and its cold; I hope Silentrunning doesn't feel the need to share his snow. :D

A wonderful morning to look forward to. :):):)

Kind regards, Colin.
