Hi,

Happy New Year @Colin, we have a grey and gloomy start to the year here too but thankfully it's not cold!:)(y)

Thanks Upsy Daisy. (y)

4C here and I've just spent the last hour on our driveway washing the Yeti and trimming the end of a big rotten stump; off to a good start this year. :)

Kind regards, Colin.

Hi,

Morning all, mild but raining. Think I've got your blackie Colin.
Sunrise 8.18 Sunset 16.04.

Got wet walking Barley at 6.30 this morning
Had to change my clothes and put them in the dryer. Better than snow though.

I hope my pet cloud Blackie hasn't been pestering you again Logan because he was missing this morning which is rare? I think Blackie is losing the plot because I managed to wash and dry the Yeti without me getting another soaking having dared to venture outside; Blackie's back though and perhaps he's had inflight top up to fill his tanks with water which he's kindly putting down as I type. :(

Kind regards, Colin.

I actually had a bit of sun at 2pm. Gorgeous and lovely. Generally tidying up the garden and checked how much woodash I have got from burning some cuttings and wood in the incinerator which I got for free. More weeding and more hellebore leaves removal.. About 1 and a half hours in the garden. When the sun was shining, it just gave me hope and really cheered me up!

We have huddled inside today--21 degrees when I got up at 7 a.m. and now we are hovering at 30 degrees mid-afternoon. This is really cold for us!
We left the heat lamps on in the hens' coops and have to keep changing the water for the kittens--it gets a skim of ice and they don't appreciate that. We have a heater for the hens' waterer, so I don't have to worry about that.
We aren't supposed to warm up until the end of the week. I can hardly wait!

@marlingardener just FYI - we never put heat on our chickens. Last night was zero degrees F and they were all fine. Even the ones up in the trees.

:eek::eek::eek:! I don't want to be your hens, @Silentrunning ! :LOL:

I would stay with @marlingardener Cosy and snug and warm! We are also faced with a terrible chains of low pressures bringing in winds and rains over the whole of next week and after that it will be cold. Just can't win. Extreme cold has hit the States, so I read in the report! I have never seen so much rain here in winter in Essex in the 22 years I have lived here!

Hi,

I've already visited three supermarkets and done the shopping this morning; I returned home by 8:20 and having put the shopping away I'm sitting here at 8:54 wondering where the daylight is because it's the usual black hole.

Yorkshire and Humber
Forecast Summary
  • Today
After a cold and frosty start, thickening cloud will bring rain and some hill snow from the west during the morning. Rain may be heavy in places, but clearing to sunny intervals and the odd shower in the afternoon.

  • Tonight
Further rain soon spreading from the west this evening, heavy at times overnight and with a continuing risk of hill snow. Winds increasing strong to gale force.
Why go to all the palaver of adding this kind of forecast for us when a simple "Blackie & Gale are permanent".

It's too cold to play out and the gardens are as usual soaking wet so to try to do anything in the garden would result in dirty boot trails everywhere. I installed 5 x 2' square LED light panels to the workshop ceiling but even these struggle to cut through the gloom. :):D

Kind regards, Colin.
