Compare it with what people would have actually been listening to back in the fifties.

I can't believe they couldn't get the rights to use contemporary recordings. I guess recording their own CDs with little known singers, was a cheaper option, but for me it loses the "magic" of the era.

Alex Oomens, who's on the CD, sounds much like many other contemporary singers, as I call them, "little girls, with little voices."
Totally wrong choice to sing a real "woman's song."
Jo Stafford was 33 when she recorded "No Other Love."
It reached No. 10 in the US hit parade.

The Repair Shop had me entertained. but not so much the items this week, I thought the space ship was a waste of time because all it was, was just a gyroscopic top. It really didn't do anything, other than demonstrate the skill of the watch and clock repairer. The pub sign took a considerable effort, but was only being displayed on a back wall of a differently named pub.
Did they paint both sides?
The Majolica vase repair was very skillfully carried out.

Jay in his designer leather apron with the ever present paint brush in the top pocket, continues to amuse me.
His contribution this week of just a couple of seconds in each example.
Near the beginning of the programme, he cut two inches off a bit of 2" X 1" with a tenon saw, freehand. No idea what he was going to do with that.
Later we saw him measuring one side of a picture frame.
But we've seen him do that before. I think it's the same clip.

But as they say, "measure twice and cut once."

The backing music and the singer have got more soul in the older version. The older version is smoky and sexy!

Bron and I watch very little normal TV at all but one program we always looked forward to was the "Ice Road Trucker" series usually on C5 but we've not seen it this year.

A tragic loss of Darrell Ward last year in a light plane accident was a shock. Darrell had just broken away with Lisa Kelly to start their own Ice Road Trucking company and both were doing well; will Lisa continue with the business?

Lisa put so many men to shame with her powerful work ethic; seldom complaining when guys were whingeing she just got on with it; top marks to Lisa she deserves to do well.

It might be on the same time of year as the last series. Was it last August?

I googled it and series 12 is being aired in Canada now. You can see episode 1 on Utube.

Many thanks Logan for your reply. If it's been shown on CH 5 then we've completely missed the series; I did a quick check before adding the post and it might have been moved to the History channel? We'll watch episode one though through YouTube as you kindly suggest; I didn't know it was on YouTube so something decent to watch tonight.

This is true.

BBC showed one of my favourite contemporary film dramas the other night. It has everything including a bit of the supernatural. There's a nice tune in it.

Someone uploaded the clip when the tune can be heard.
