Kate Humble got the job because she got the look. She looked so out of depth in the US Yellowstone National Park Series(?). I'd rather watch Chris Peckham or Michaela. Shame that Martin has quit.

She's out of her depth in anything. Michaela a much more able presenter got sidelined by the BBC as they thought Kate would attract more male viewers, Michaela though no more qualified than Kate always seemed to be more more personable. The BBC have seen the error of their ways and she's been back on TV, although her home is in South Africa.

Now don't get me started on Clare Balding, who can on occasions, talk total bollox, with complete authority. As well as trying to hog the camera when there's actually people around who know what they are talking about. I really dislike the fact that the BBC have used her for track cycling and alpine events, she's clueless about both. Relies a lot on other peoples research for her prepared notes.

She's another who ticks two boxes for the BBC.

Hear! Hear! That BBC for you. Fed up with those tribal journalists doing The Papers. Ruin my chance of understanding politics.

Watched Friday's A Place to Call Home. I still think Regina is on the Blighs side. Poor Jack on the bottle again. Looking forward to tomorrow's episode.

I don't think so! The show can't go on without the archdevil.

I'm halfway through a near two hour documentary I recorded on PBS America on the Lancaster Bomber, only two of which out of over 7000 made are still allowed to fly.

2-hour! Must be very good. Some docs are just very good. love A Tale of 3 cities

The Repair Shop.

Wasn't impressed with tonight's selections, a chair, a National Cash Register and a small wind up gramophone.
It amused me that the owner's father had originally hung onto the cash register, "in case decimalisation didn't last".

Jay's lost his ball point pen, but the brush is still in the top pocket of his overall. He was just as superfluous as ever.

Two former ATA female pilots, were interviewed one now 96, the other 100. The latter showed her log book. In one month she'd delivered thirty different types of planes.

She'd told the story before in the documentary made on the ATA. She's about five feet tall. She once stepped out of a Wellington bomber, she'd delivered to an airfield. The ground crew and some pilots came to meet the plane. They were all hanging around the plane, when she asked, "Isn't anyone going to take me to reception, so I can hand over the plane?
They replied "We're waiting for the pilot."
"I am the pilot."
They didn't believer her and searched the plane!.

Perhaps the most famous ATA pilot was Amy Johnson. She died when a plane she was delivering crashed into the Thames Estuary, after she'd gone off course. They flew with no radio, or navigational instruments, as they weren't fitted at the aircraft factories.

Perhaps the most glamorous ATA girl was Diana Barnato Walker. 1918 – 2008. Her grandfather founded deBeers diamond company, and her father Woolf Barnato, was a director of Bentley Motors and raced their cars at Brooklands and at Le Mans..

Her family home before she was married, was her father's house in Egham, built for him by Edwin Lutchen's son.

About fifteen years ago. It looked like this, now a retirement home. Our daughter's partner's grandmother was a resident. His dad, a doctor, made regular visits to check on the health of the residents. His mother gave me a tour of the place. It has some very large fish ponds. There were ornate fountains in them, but they got stolen.

To the right of this photo was a big marquee where daughter's partner celebrated his thirtieth birthday. The band was the tribute band Fleetwood Bac. His grandmother and a couple of the other residents, came down in their wheelchairs for a while to enjoy the entertainment, (they said it was better than bingo or watching the telly)
