@Logan It's a bit cold here. Snapdragons self-seed here and they will grow in the hottest place and indeed, Essex is the best place for them as they like the heat and can be drought-resistant. Another happy thing is that there were tons of nerines there. They grew out of pebbles, with no leaves and they are jolly happy in our climate too. 7.30 I'm going to shred my leaves of the red hot poker. Meanwhile, a banana and a hot cuppa are definitely needed to sustain me.

Bet you must have 200 wallflowers, Logan! LOL! I have to water my hellebores, trim the squashes and take my cobea scandens indoors as they are very tender. The horrible thing is that their tendrils tend to cling to anything, even walls..

Yes i've got 220 wallflowers, can't have too many.Climbing plants do tend to cling like that. You could grow squashes up poles. I know i've got to do the vaccuming, might wash my hair in between that.:(

Where do you get all these different cultivars? Verdun? Seems to me you have different set of gardening mailshots to ours. Talking about eucomis, I have seen some giant ones in RHS gardens whilst mine is tiny and weak! Why?

Ha ha, always seeking out plants alp
I grow eucomis Sparkling Burgundy....this is prob what you might call a giant too. Rich maroon red foliage from spring and pineapple-like flowers in summer. They need sun, good drainage esp over winter....although elsewhere prob best to lift and keep indoors over winter....but not to get too dry in summer. :)

They form big bulbs and quite quickly make more. A group of them is nice with a blue grass but, yes, a statement with anything :)

Haha! Talk of the devil, I saw a eucomis about 5 inches tall today in my south facing border. The poor thing is able to poke its pineapple like flower out of a thick canopy. This itself is nothing short of a miracle!

Well i did 3 out of the 4 things that i said i would do. Vaccuming, washed my hair and finally put the curtains up. Neaghbour next door has a silver birch over the other side of her fence, where the public foot path is. This time of year it releases it's seed and they get everywhere. It gets in the house, she said that they get in her washing on the line, she said that they get in her underwear. She got in touch with the council to cut it down, she was told it would take 10 months, it's gone 10 months but they still haven't done it.When these houses were built, they planted a lot of trees. We had 3 large conifers in the back and 1 in the front by the window. They all went and there was a lot more light.
