For the orange tip butterflies, naturalists recommend garlic mustard or mustard garlic flowers. I saw a dead one clueing to a plant a year ago and was stunned by its beauty. Only later did I learn of its name. Yesterday programme had a video of this beauty. Actually, the one I found had no orange tip. Just one white and green. I loved it all the same.

Morning all. I was up, haven't had time.hubby had trouble getting the boys out. Berry wouldn't go, because he kept hearing barely barking. Barely he just wouldn't go, he'll only go out if he's waiting to have a wee, this time of morning.

Are they friendly with each other, Berry and Barley? They are a bit of handful this morning. Very overcast here. Best day for cloths drying, presumably. Going out to look for bargains and see if I can find another agastache. I have the feeling that I saw it in RHS Hdye Hal..

Yes they're friendly, but barely won't go out with Berry. Barely gets hold of the lead and starts playing tug of war.

Funny how dogs and cats have got their own character.

Didn't buy any plants, but bought some door handles and son has got one set in. He was well chuffed. He didn't like different ones and insisted on having the same three horrible bland chrome ones. I told him that we could have two same ones for bedrooms and one different one for the bathroom. Well, they were all on clearance and hence it's difficult to find 3 of the same.

I went to the door handles section and found a pair similar to the one we wanted to buy and got the other pair reduced as well. So pleased as they do look nice and different from the boring bland ones and they were cheaper than those in B&M.

@johnny canoe The best and closest close ups ever. So lovely.. You probably could try nectar to see if more would peck at your hand. But that would be messy. We loved it when we fed parrots with nectar in Safari park.. That's the ONLY time I have birds coming to my hands. Here, a slight movement will send the tits away. Today I spotted one on my peach tree.. Can you tell if you have the same birds eating from your hand, johnny?

Hi alp,
The only nectar eating birds that I know of here are hummingbirds and I think it would be a challenge making friends with them.
I can tell the birds from each other. A couple I know because of the unique ways their feathers lay. Others I know by the sharp chirp they give me to let me know their flying in for a landing. Another always gives a sharp chirp when it lands, another does a real dive landing, sending the seeds flying out of my hand. Another lands and just sits there and stares at me for a minute before grabbing a seed. I also can tell a few apart by their grip on my fingers. One holds on like it's life depends on it and another is very dainty and I can barley feel it. And there is my favorite little chickadee, he will land on my shoulder or just hang on to the front of my shirt or jacket.

Hahaha! I can't believe it! So many different traits and the way you describe it so funny. Why don't you start giving them names to see if they will respond to the names? Now I have to google chickadee. I'm totally ignorant as to birds' names.

So glad that your reply has made me chuckle. Nice way to wind down for bed .. Think you still have a half a day ahead of you, johnny!

Ah, will they scamper if you move your hand, not to say call out their names?

I have named two of them, Scruffy and Fussy. Scruffy's feathers are always ruffled up and Fussy has to pick through all the seeds on my hand, selecting the two best ones to fly away with. I don't call them by name I just whistle when I get close on my bike and they follow me to where ever I stop for them.

Good morning to an overcast and gloomy Essex.

I whispered to some robins - some flew away and one sang her heart out to show me up.. it knows my limited repertoire and sang beautiful with rise and fall and melisma ..

Now that I have switched to fat balls, more tits come to feed, but the sparrows don't give them a chance as they are similar in size and can get through the cage.

Every time I go to B&M, I want to buy the £3.99 bucket of fat balls, but change my mind every time as there is always something more vital to buy.
