Was it me? Or was it really cold last night? I was sitting next to the radiator and there I was, shivering! Went to bed with my fleece on, which was extremely rare. Finished Reasonable Doubt and went straight to bed.

Woke up to the pleasant sound of rain. Not torrential, but steady and honest, well, a bit slow!

My foul fowl have improved a lot. One beauty got eaten whilst all the rest bar one have grown beautiful coats. The handsome bully was having a good time in front of me with Baldy. Despite my best efforts and £14, Baldy is still Badly, just couldn't improve on her coat. For this reason, I always let the lame Laney and Baldy have their meals first and then let the others join them. Ebony bully wasn't best pleased and always makes background brouhaha. I thought I had done a good humanitarian job helping these two 2nd class citizens. Before, I even stood there and watched Laney eat her food, shooing away any venture capitalists.

Then lately, I found out that these two, especially Laney, were very fussy. Laney would give me doleful looks as if begging for special treatment. I used to feel bad. Now that I have found out how fussy and picky she was, I couldn't care less. All the others were FIGHTING for their food in mad rushes and she would look at the food and not bother to join in the valiant effort. I have now theorised that these chickens liked to fight and if they didn't fight for the food, the latter just didn't taste nice. That's me sorted. And I won't feel so had if Laney is underweight. Don't get me wrong: She responded very quickly if mealworms were doled out.

This freegled cold frame had done a 1st class job - turning out the best home grown salad leaves I had ever had.

Forgot to post yesterday!

I wish the rain wouldn't stop. It started early in the morning and at about 11, it stopped. I have had only about 4 butts which will be gone in no time. I keep remembering Zenj saying that he had never had a water butt! The luxury of it!!

Helper said I would use my free buckets to use as legs for new greenhouse staging. I'm thinking of buying some accessories to make it look better.

So many repeats in GW and even Beechgrove keeps wasting time with showing repeat intro and concluding clips of the families gardening. Very boring.

A sweet surprise to find that I have a clump of English bluebell here

Azalea and rhodo are flowering too.

Now we have to make a list of doing up my patio which will be some slabs and some brick pavers. A lot of hard work ahead! We will do it ourselves - little emperor and I.

Went to the allotment. The neighbouring couple and their employee were all there. Very nice couple and we all worked until nearly 1. The couple left of vaccination and we for lunch. Went shopping for food and compost and came home with 220L of compost for a tenner! Not the best, but better than paying full price.

I saw Lupin spikes coming up at the front, Tons of various alliums with buds bursting open. Whilst watching C4 news (Nicola Sturgeon the parrot parroting about independence again!) and saw rain patches over us. Checked in Met Office report, no rain. Then 10pm, heavens was generous and it rained pitter patter-rhythmically and percussively. Very, very happy!

It seems to be these dark chocolate colour tulips flower rather late.

Funny you should mention your cosmos buds. Same here! I spotted them a week ago and was wondering how such small plants (seedlings really) could bear buds! I think the cold weather put paid to the flowering. Had the weather warmed up a bit more, they wouldn't have been so stunned. I wish I could nip the buds out - they were glued right on the small stems!

Because of the foul weather, supermarket couldn't shift their BBQ stuff. Bought Prawn noodles,Prawn and chicken Paellas and I just fried some BBQ pork chops. Geeeee! They added no flavour to any of them, apart from SUGAR! Wish their ceo tasted their own stuff.

Grey here. Not that cold, but not heart warming either.

2 days ago, I watched a video which showed what would happen if you planted an egg under a plant. The producer proceeded to tell all the lovely ingredients would break down and benefit the plant. After that, more wacky idea - boiling the shells ...

And yesterday, I was replanting my terrestrial orchids and saw a pebble and because land was at a premium, I tried to remove the pebble, only to find it deeply embedded in the soil and very smooth. By the time it was out, it was an EGG! Crikey! Either I was digging and unbeknown to me, I buried it without realising it. Or some critter had buried it for his future-proof cache! Very strange. I put it back and please beware this is NOT the same egg, but a tad bigger.

This is quite a horror story!

Just watered quite a bit and half a butt of water gone. For those who like clematis, ...

Dramas in football results last night!

It was hot in the morning and as soon as I changed into shorts, it was cold and windy. 2 minutes of spits around 2pm and I had to retire the clothes, and then I had to put them out again. All the neighbouring areas had dark thick clouds, but not us. Very disappointing.

It's not raining now, but the ground is wet.

Planted out some Salvia Discolour tiny, tiny seedlings. I'm talking about only 2 false leaves. They were difficult to germinate and already had been covered with tiny predatory eggs. The day before yesterday, got an email from Ashwood, saying that this plant was back in stock. I immediately bought a mature one and of course another Salvia Leucantha. I had totally forgotten that I had already bought one online and it was £7.95 excluding postage. It arrived with the date on the label 11.2.21 and it was a tiny cutting with 3 roots. I was very gutted. I immediately chopped off the branches (only 2 or 1 and a half) and put them in jiffy pellets and of course cut open the bottom and side as that is usually why cuttings don't do well in jiffy pellets for long. The mother plant promptly died and it could be my fault. Remember the plant was bought 27 March. Thank heavens that the progeny is still alive. This seller had about 7 available and all sold within days. Another seller sold me a Penstemon Ruby (£7.99 all in) which was a 2 year old plant - lovely, strong and robust. This is the disparity of buying online. 2 months' old or 2 years' old! You really need to do your homework.

Planted out my abutilons which will be taken back indoors later in the year. Cooped up in pots for the 2nd year running is not really ideal

I also had a red one raised from seed.

My garden is full of these tiny allium! Lost the label, as usual.

Martagon Lily: I remember the first time I saw this lily. They were very intriguing as the leaves were surrounding the stem and the lily behaved like Erythronium, with petals totally flicked towards the sky! I took so many pics! It was at a National Trust property which we had to go across a bridge to access the main house.

Cornflower is good for taking photos. I remember seeing a pink one in the allotment. I wish I had marked the flower and taken seeds.

Why I can't rarely see myself type on this site?

Neighbour's cat eating the hedgehog food. As soon as I shook the packet of food, she came and ingratiate herself! Very disgusting!
