Cannas are easily adaptable to different climates, I still think they don't do good for you because the plants you had were not healthy to begin with.

I pulled the ones I want to save (don't have room for all) in the Fall, put the rhizomes in boxes of pine shaving and store them in the only unfinished little spot of the basement, where my water softener is.

Yes, I bought a non-starter and those raised from seeds bore pathetically small flowers. Pine shaving! I wonder if the shavings in our packets are pine shavings. They are shavings all right. I am a bit wary as those plants that I bought from shops differed dramatically to those flowered last year. Of course, the weather was atrocious last year and the heat and drought were just relentless.

Did you buy them online, Gemma? I have never seen these before! Thank you for sharing your pride and joy. Tomorrow is going to be a very busy day! Too much to tidy up and we need to buy a lot of stuff for painting. Vinyl matt emulsion and all that.

Perki - your companion planting is fabulous! Love your new camera and the stripes are so impressive. Here in the posh gc, they only sell 2 varieties and they are not cheap. The other gcs didn't stock many.

How could you get rid of them?! Just the leaves are a topic for conversation. Going to have dinner now. Going to view 2 bungalows on Friday and hopefully next Tuesday, viewing can be resumed.

They had some Canna in the GC last year , all of them infected with canna virus its not illegal to sell them either . I got rid of them cause I feared they may have canna virus, its difficult to tell on some varieties. I believe it can be spread by aphids so if one has the virus its likely they all could have it.

Nice Canna's gemma , I've only got one at the moment which looks very familiar to one of yours called Durban or Phasion and many other names. View attachment 48919View attachment 48920
I had others as well in the past - Wyoming and Petroia , I wish I kept them now I got paranoid they had canna virus so got rid. Also grown Australia which has really nice chocolate colour leaves but I lost it last winter. There is a supplier in the UK which sell virus free canna called - Hart canna - but its quite expensive , I want another one called Shenandoah.
@Perki thank you, and so are yours! You have very good taste in Canna!

Some I bought online, other at my nursery. I'm very skeptic when it comes to buying Canna because most turn out to be virus infected.
take your time and settle in a new home, then when you'll be all settled in the offer still stand if you're interested :)

Good morning to a quieter but busier day! Won't be sitting here as after 8.30am, all guns blazing - a lot to do.

Very dark out there, so can't really see if there is snow out there or not.

Wall papering today after breakfast.

This is how they came in the mail, in a 4" little pot..I can't believe how fast they grew
View attachment 48902

One of the ones I order this year has light green leaves like the Pretoria but red bloom instead of orange..can't wait to see it!

Canna Tropicana (Phasion) has leaves similar to African Sunset, same orange blooms but it grows shorter and I have yet to find a virus free specimen. I wonder if maybe that could be the one you had?

Very healthy plants! I have bought plants but have never received such healthy looking plants. Plants of this size with leaves intact will cost a fortune to send here in the UK!

When I send Canna to my family in Italy, doesn't cost me that much! I have to bag the bare root in peat moss (no soil is ok to ship overseas) but because my plants are healthy they start growing as soon as planted

Here a box will cost me £2.95. No way can I package the way your purchase was like. Wait till I have moved and I know Farmer Gracy sell Durban which I really like. Love all your cannas except the red ones. The pink or apricot one is so beautiful.

Just wallpapered half a room. The transformation is instant. There is so much condensation that droplets were dropping from the ceiling. Kept using towels to dry the ceiling. There's a lot of water from the plastering as well.

The red ones are my least favorite (except the king that has awesome foliage) . I had a white one I got just to send a cutting to mom, I didn't even winterize it, I'm not a fan of white flowers.

Great minds think alike!

Just finished wallpapering half a room. Hard work working with an autistic man. Everything has to be perfect and his way! I would have done it for half a day.

Saw quite a few in Farmer Gracy website. Best is not to buy anything now. I have already 12 trees waiting for me and poor things, they are all in pots.

Good morning - another cold day, but it would be two digit temperature. Hurrah! And on top of that a bit more rain. Thank you very much. Need to sort out the 3 freegled butts and get the water in. Didn't go out to the garden yesterday as there wouldn't be much to see. Today, we are going to finish the wallpapering and will go and buy vinyl emulation matt print to do the first coat for tomorrow.

I do hope it rains this much!
