I were after some Allium Summer drummer, I'll get them from another GC they were just cheaper from taylors. I've already got some ASDummer but they didn't flower for some reason. I probably spent more in fuel gallivanting around trying to get bulbs cheaper than buying them from one place for more.

Saw some erythronium bulbs ( purple flower colour ) very small and already shrivelled, they can't dry out what so ever or they are duff, its a shame really cause somebody will come along and buy them and be put off growing erythroniums when they don't grow

Aw! That's so sad. My Dad's a bit like that ,always looking through photos and playing old songs that prompt memories of past happy shared times with Mum and us as children. :(

Perhaps you should do more of this reminiscing with him. It helps him remember better times. Bet you must have done tons.

I have this one and bought the yellow Pagoda again. I really like those shown off by a man all over his hill side house. Very different colour as well. Wish I could buy this purple ones. I know what you mean by gallivanting. We wasted so much money on our petrol. But son saw how he could make some cash just by buying and selling snowdrops and would often not complain. In fact, he loves going out more than me. But when it comes to paying, he would discourage me!:(

Instead of watching Vanity Fair, I watched Victoria documentary .. So many lies .. She apparently had a strong penchant for drugs .. not just cannabis, but laudenlum, and quite a few others .. One commentator even suggested she enjoyed the company of not only men, but women! Er??

Good morning! It's cold and dark and I have a lot to do this morning.

@Upsy Daisy It must be very hard to be cheerful for your dad and for the forum all the times. Glad that your children have all grown up and they can do the cheering up now.

Do you have any recipe for BBQ from your hubs please? I love spicy food though and would love to have one when ex is coming up. I would put them in the microwave first though. No laughing matter.

Saturday was the first time I watched Strictly come dancing. I used to like it very much. But some celebrities were like professionals whilst some have 2 left foot! Now that GR has finished, so will the Beechgrove and GW soon, I guess I will stick to it.

@Perki, I have left the stump of the yew as I had broken my Black and Decker saw and the chain saw chain is very loose. I am a bit wary of using it. Hopefully, it will grow back. I just have to improve the air flow so that alien air will move away instead of being trapped and boomeranging into my house. That's why we have snow drift deposited outside the lean to door. For that reason, we can even open the back windows.

The rise of veganism and its impact on horticulture

RHS chief horticulturist Guy Barter said: ‘Vegan gardening is similar to organic in that it avoids synthetic pesticides and fertilisers.

Vegan gardeners kick up stink over ‘cruel’ manure in favour of animal-free alternatives

  • The Royal Horticultural Society wants firms to produce new green composts
  • Demand is rising for plant-based fertilisers and free-range manure pellets
  • According to Vegan Society there are an estimated 542,000 vegans in Britain

...But it goes further, eliminating anything of animal origin which includes popular feeds with animal materials such as fish, bones and blood, and manures from intensive animal farming.’

According to the Vegan Society there are an estimated 542,000 vegans in Britain.

Landscape designer Jack Wallington told the Sunday Telegraph he had been trying to make his allotment more environmentally-friendly using ‘homemade compost and fertilisers made from nettles and comfrey, plus shop-bought seaweed fertiliser’.

Goooooooooood morning, @Upsy Daisy

Thank you for the link. Please let me know when your dad's chestnuts go popping!

I think I saw Jenna Coleman but she looked very tired. Will try it tonight as Sunday viewing was diabolical. Have to go to the garden and dig.. Not looking forward to it! Brrrrrrrr! So cold.

FBB - I actually quite like using it - thought I was adding goodies to the soil. Life for a gardener is going to be difficult.

Excuse me, we don't want horse manure, FBB or chemicals in our garden. I could overlook the chemicals bit. To be truly organic is very difficult. Imagine you can't use horse manure, chicken pellets or FBB! :banghead:

Going to have breakfast and then dig! Don't they have robots working in the garden in the cold? :banghead::inpain:

Actually we have never used manure or chicken pellets....aren't we mean to our poor plants!:( We keep saying we're going to , but never get round to it. Do use rose feeds and B,F and BM and Ericaious ( sp?:shame:) feed.....and make all our own compost. Feeling truly guilty now...our poor starving plants!!

You made all your compost??? Wow! Respect. I bought another 5 bags of compost £1 each and one £1.49. Now I feel guilty!

I have bought chicken pellet once or twice, but did get tons of horse manure and weed like an idiot:banghead::inpain::inpain:. You probably have a lucky escape:D .. You don't really want to do any more weeding!

Yes I totally forgot on Saturday to look at the chestnuts, however I did ask him and he said that the big fall hadn't started yet but probably would in the next week or two. Will keep you posted(y)

Afternoon , rain shower finished work for today which wasn't forecast but oh well my grass seed needs the moister, quite a frost this morning something else I wasn't expecting . I keep leaving my Ensete maurelii and colocasia outside in pots, the word frost is supposed to kill them but mine look ok still, they are up against the house which may be giving some heat off.

If it drys up going to go GC and sort some bulbs out, I made a shopping list last night on geetee bulb suppliers but will see if GC has them cheaper / bigger bulbs.

Wish I could make all my own compost , I use all my HMcompost in no time probably save about £30 a year with it, I still spend a lot on bought compost £60 ish about 1000litres a year I reckon. I had 14 bags of 50litres all gone and had quite a lot more compost since. I've never used chicken pellets before just horse manure or farmyard manure, I am very picky but some people are way over the top, I won't say no to more organic fertiliser but I doubt it be cheap to begin with I'll stick to FBB or BMeal

Did you say your chain loose on your chainsaw @alp ? you can adjust it and don't use it, don't want it breaking and seriously hurting yourself .

Good Afternoon @Perki, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you in the hope that you finally find the bulbs that you want :)(y)
