OK...need a bit of advice please.
Have done some research, but advice is a bit contradictory... should I dig up my Glad. bulbs?? This is my first year of growing them. Thanks:)

I hope @Zenj or @Perki will be able to give you some advice. I reckon you don't have to. Get some shingles (the small stones, not the disease:eek::LOL:!) to open up the clay soil and as long as it's free draining, they should be OK. I used to have them in a desert like corner. After much neglect, they died and even that took years! Off now as I have to pop up the toms greenhouse!

@Leeski Make sure the things you're going to get are worth the petrol money. Some people are very pathetic - one woman gave away a tiny polystyrene box with a duck tap round the top. I thought it was the ones sued by Pets at Home for transporting fish!:LOL: And to park near her house was a nightmare. But do be quick as the responses can be overwhelming. A man said to my son that we would be given more flowers as we were polite! LOL!

See you lovely guys later!

Morning all. Feeling a little better :) thought I would check in properly although I have been lurking. I hope Perki doesn’t have too much of a sore head this morning ;)

Who has been over wafting? Last night we had a torrential down pour for 2 hours, on top of earlier showers. It was so sudden and heaven Dahlia Bishop of York lost quite a few stems :( the weather seems to have more of the same ideas for Sunday with wind. Get moving those pots in and staking!

Hi
Depends on winter weather your area you could try a thick mulch over them otherwise they have to be lifted and stored .Even here in the NE I have known them to come back after leaving cannot be bothered lifting mine so I will let them build up than cut back and mulch them and they can take there chance.

Morning @Mark56 , glad your feeling on the brighter side of things at the moment.....long may it last:)

Not the wafting culprit this time as we had the same here too. We have a lot of 'airy fairy ' plants.....so I'm dreading the potential damage that might result from tomorrow's weather. We are running out of stakes and canes!!!
I won't be able to raise the window blinds tomorrow as I will so scared at what I may find!!:jawdrop::nailbiting:

Hi @Zenj , thanks for swiftly coming to my aid:happy:

We are as far south as you could get ....without getting wet feet in the Solent:LOL:. Might lift most but leave some in situ to see how they cope in our environment down here.....seems the most logical option to try for this 1st winter.
Thanks again(y)

Believe you me, unless it is the coldest winter for 30 years, you really don't have to lift them. Just mulch as Zenj suggest. If my flowers were half as pretty as @Zenj 's, I wouldn't be so blasée. Had a good hunt and found out the the Sour Grapes is very sour and sulky - only one stem left. Going to dig a good hole and take it out of the pot.

Was so hot putting the toms greenhouse back. I was sweating just standing inside. Poor toms wouldn't know what hit them. Tomorrow 15c and I am speechless. Wonder if they will overheat in the plastic cover or freeze at night.

@Mark56 I have been raising white flag for a long time. The freaky weather this year has been very cruel. The only upside is that I have a bit more water to play with, which is vital to me. Need to turn on the fan to cool down.

I'm now expert at collecting toms seeds

Oh my golly gosh!!!!
I bet those tomato seeds are a nightmare to harvest.....you must surely have the patience of a Saint @alp

Bah!! Tomato seeds are EASY!! Simply wipe them off your cutting board with a paper towel. Allow to dry... (y)

( If you want more seeds, scoop out more of the "gel" with the tip of your knife. )

Once someone gave me a Blue Peter Badge on another forum. Thank you very much. It was awfully messy. Use a tissue paper to drag all the seeds in an attempt to remove the gluey stuff. Then just pick them off. I will store them in the fridge. Now you're making me blush!

@MaryMary can surely fashion an acceptance speech for me - with correct English!:ROFLMAO:

Finished 2 toms greenhouses! Don't know about the toms, but I was toasted and it was so hot. In the end, the heat beat me to it and came in and quarter to 3, it rained again! Not complaining. I need a lot.
