I always haggle and eventually get a good deal. Haggle for everything from insurances to buying paint. Recently deals done for carpets, flooring,,washing machine, tumble drier, oh! And last week got £15 off a pair of shoes :)
Nothing to lose in trying to get a discount; "they" wont put the price up but you could save yourselves a pound or two (y)

When you haggle, you're willing to pay. That woman who asked me for the white osteospermum, I asked for £1, she said no. As I was getting rid of them, I said she could have it free. Now she's repeating the same old trick, but I won't give anything away as I really have to lug water and sometimes use metered water to water my plants at the front. So I got £1 for the violet osteospermum, then she gave me hint again for the double one which came with a pot. I said no. I have to be careful as I have had some stolen from my front. A flowering white osteospermum.

Have to say, I am fed up with people haggling. Some person lowered my asking price by £1 for my seeds, I said I would be agreable if he/she could collect and pay cash. She/he said no as he/she lived in Scotland .. Haha!

I have the opposite problem--turning down payment for something offered. Friends who are thrilled to get brown farm-raised eggs want to pay me for them. No, if we ate all those eggs we'd end up in hospital, so it's cheaper to give the extras away!
Vegetables--I always plant too many with the thought "all of them won't come up" and when they do, I have an abundance. Giving them to folks who can't garden is a pleasure. Folks on very limited incomes want to pay for the tomatoes, peppers, corn, etc. Ah, c'mon folks--the smile on your face is payment enough (plus I don't have to deal with the surplus!).
I don't give to those who demand something, and I don't give to those who are too lazy to garden, but I dearly love to give to others and wouldn't accept any payment other than a "thank you".

I wish I were in that position. Actually, one year I had so many peaches that I gave them away outside my house. Don't know who took them, but it's nice to be able to give away ..

Fair's fair though. A fair price for a good product is fine :)

I think I am a generous person...both with my time and my money. I give plants for free and help folks for free. My own garden produce this summer to friends, neighbours and the local food bank, plants to the local hospice, and help I give that I will not accept money for.

However, it is fhe haggling with big business that is different for me. The profit margins many suppliers have are often excessive and we, as consumers, have a right to try and get as cheap a deal as possible. Ditto for faulty goods....they will always be returned even if out of warranty but should have lasted much longer yet many people do not like to do this.

My first haggling was when I was a boy of 8 or 9 and I haggled for a brand new racing bike. The seller was so impressed by this young boy's determination that he gave me a big discount. So I learned early how to haggle :)

Agree fully with you @Verdun ...its the big guns that deserve to be haggled with, their profit margins are sooooo huge!!! You seem to have an abundance of generosity .(y)

It is nevertheless interesting to find that more often than not its the folk with leaner means that will willingly part with their money that the more affluent .

Love your ethos @marlingardener .(y)

Good on you @alp for standing your ground (y)......she was certainly trying to take you for a ride:mad:

Good morning .. After reading @Larisa 's Brownie, I am a bit scared stiff.. Now, I wouldn't dare to turn my head. I am too mean, with no light on except the laptop's screen power... @Upsy Daisy 's thread has now become a threat!

@Zenj I see what you mean. Apparently, we are too late for bulb and there is only one place for the seeds with beautiful nomocharis flowers.. The other place sells lilium rather than nomocharis .. or the nomocharis that I want. Only 8 seeds .. Ahhhhhhhhhhh .. And I am not that good with seeds, except Bird of Paradise..

Morning everyone,

Lovely bright and sunny Sunday here... albeit a tad nippy around the nether regions!!:ROFLMAO::D:ROFLMAO:

Hope to plant out my tulips today and make sure that all plants that require cosseting are cosseted as tonight we are suppose to reach a low of -1 :eek:

Mmmmmmmmm don't like the sound of that at all :(:(:cry::cry:

Tomorrow is The Big day.......taking sis home, so that she can resume her life slowly before going back to work in January. She now feels she is able to start driving again so will be down again at the end of the month and down for Christmas......fingers crossed that things stay on the 'up'for her(y)

:D:ROFLMAO::D:ROFLMAO:...I know what you mean @alp .....I've bitten off more than I can chew!!! Scaring myself silly now too:eek:..... Brownies :eek::eek:
