I used to get regular jobs pruning lavender and kept the slips from the best ones to grow on as cuttings, a lot of them got supplied to gardener friends, but I have a hedge of fifteen plants between the lawn and a vegetable bed. Hopefully it deters slugs from crossing over from the lawn, it certainly looks good.
When people asked me to prune they would frequently say "It's a Hidcote you know, it was expensive." I am not shy of cutting back quite hard when needed and I think it scared them a bit, but although they all claimed the same 'Hidecote' the plants could be quite different, I think the nursery call them all that to charge a bit more for them.
