Well now its winter I spend most of my time making quilts that can be used every day. Most go to the homeless shelters or to a church for those in need. I can work up to 10hrs a day and find it relaxing .

Do you do it by hand and needle or by machine? Such a lovely thought!

@Fernsdaddy and @alp , years ago I discovered that those quilting squares are a little side business for people. People buy bolts of cloth and cut them in squares and sell them on Ebay. amazing the little ways to make a buck out there. Good for you Fernsdaddy to donate your time like that. Still have a full time job here, 40 hours a week outside the home. So evenings are busy, and weekend for errands etc. Before you know it , its the next day.

Nice that you're keeping yourself busy, Esther! Now I am having my last cup of tea and then I will venture out .. Hopefully I can watch Medical Detectives when I come back.

once in my life I was without a job, the company I worked on down sized. got some unemployment checks. there I was gardening like crazy, it looked perfect and also walking 4 miles every day with my dog. then I got a job again after about 4 months. so guess similar will happen when I retire.

Now what would I do if I have a bigger garden, naturalising galanthus, especially the yellow ones

and many others.

naturalising my lawns with clumps of the same tulips, daffs, snowdrops and erythroniums

And hellebores

And trees extremely dwarf ones so that I can eat from the tree tops..

Hard labour in gardening = unwinding ..

I watch TV but not these reality programmes. Also got 2 golden retrievers, like to walk them 4 times a day.

I do a bit of dress making when I've got the time. Found a shop in town that sells everything about hobbies. Do a bit of greeting card making with our friend keith.

Another way of my unwinding is to go round diy gc and feast my eyes on the various plants they have. It's so nice to see new flowers. Saw some lovely camellias but they were very pricy and this year, I haven't seen the blue striped primroses. I have been ready to part with my money, but they have not made their appearance.

This year we found it very difficult to find just yellow polyanthus, could get primroses but i wanted the flowers to stand up from the leaves.

I go hiking, but I haven't been on a hike in a while, but I think it's about time. This is a creek crossing in Maine (2006) -- I'm in the front. Unexpectedly saw this picture on facebook today and realized I gotta get back out there to unwind....
