Well done, @Greenhorn !

Shame we really can't start the seeds until March or April or the cold and damp will kill the seeds.

Hi,

Just daydreaming and having a senior moment Verdun. :D

If Peter Pan is a little boy who never grows up why not have a little girl called Petra to keep him company after all little Peter has a friend called Wendy but this doesn't seem to be going anywhere fast. As I say I'm just daydreaming and have been doing quite a bit of this whilst digging in the garden without a care in the world. One good thing about growing old is that I can be silly without feeling guilty about it. (y):)

It's supposed to be a scorching 8C today but I don't think anyone has mentioned this to Gale; the breeze she is blowing up the valley is perishingly cold; I've managed two one hour sessions digging this morning; first thing when I started I thought I would need to wear my headlamp because it was so dark and gloomy now it's just gloomy. A couple of days ago I was really going for it stabbing the spade into the ground for all I was worth until I hit a big buried stone full on; this sent a tremendous pain through my right hand and I can still feel the remains of it.

I'm making excellent progress in spite of the bitter cold; stones and roots etc.

Kind regards, Colin.

That's got to be satisfying Colin :)
Lucky here to have deep, sandy loam. Enriched over the years too. Now it is mulched annually to maintain its fertility. The first dig is always the hardest.....careful, I almost broke into song there!
Again no time to garden except to divide and cut down a couple more cannas......

It wasn't in the garden - yard, but here is hoping it gets some of the benefits. I signed up for OH-171 Landscape Drafting today, starts in January.

Not much for me to do in my garden this time of year. Patiently waiting for the first snowfall of a few inches or more so I can scatter my seeds around the garden.

I've been planting my winter garden for the past couple weeks, things like carrots, brussels sprouts, artichokes, broccoli, fava beans, lentils, crimson clover and a seed pack of various beans/clovers.

A couple weeks ago I found some strange looking seeds on my shoes, which I first noticed after helping work in a native park here in Jacksonville, I remember thinking they look familiar, but couldn't ID them, but since I'd been working in a native park I threw them in my garden and see what comes back next year.

Then about a week later I saw some more on my clothes and wondering if they came from that native park or my yard...(don't remember what clothes I was wearing).

In the last few days I remember seeing a plant in my corner lot that I transplanted to that area from my front yard and I think they had these seeds on it; however, the problem is, is that I don't know if this was a dream or I actually saw these seeds on that plant. I could just walk out there, but I'm afraid what I might see.

Nothing as I have to brush up my skill on something to be tested on 15 December.

Now that I am having lunch, I can mess about a bit. I clicked on an old thread and saw a thread on beautiful trees and saw some of claudine's posts. I remember someone saying that he/she missed Claudine .. I think I miss her too. Such lovely photos..

I think it's @Greenhorn .. Shame the forum doesn't even recognise her name.. sad!

Hi,

I think I must have had the spade surgically removed from my hands because today I haven't been in the garden at all; Bron and I have just returned from visiting our best friends who live 70 miles distant from us and it's been really nice to meet with them again for a good natter without any graft involved. For a change it's been a lot brighter today and WOW no rain although Gale is still here bending the trees giving a chill factor. All Christmas shopping for prezzies done and all Christmas cards posted yesterday; roll on Easter. :D

Tonight
A dry start to the night, with some clear spells in the east. It will be windy throughout, with outbreaks of heavier rain spreading in from the west later.

Heavier rain; so what's new? I plan to do more digging tomorrow and it looks like a freezing start with a temperature range for the day of 0C-9C; am I going to complete the digging before winter sets in with a vengeance?

Over the last few days whilst digging I think I've been wearing M&S anti-gravity socks; after an hours hard digging I come indoors and find the heels of my socks on the top of my feet; working on the sloping garden stresses everything; a couple of mornings ago I awoke with a lot of hip pain; Bron kindly gave me high strength cod liver oil capsules and taking one of these each day has worked a treat; I'm ready for more digging. :)(y)

Kind regards, Colin.

Did nothing in the garden today, but I did plant my 10 free Arbor Day Foundation trees around the yard! They're between six inches and a foot tall. They should look good in about 10 or 20 years!
I found that one of the trees had a broken root so I've contacted the ADF in hopes that they'll be able to replace it because it's one of the ones I most wanted.

You never know, they might grow faster than you think. I have seen trees on this forum and they are fabulous as they all got flowers.. Flowers which I have never seen before. Here, parks are full of green, green and yet more green on the trees... Another exciting thing is that they are of various colours and they the trees are literally smothered with stunning blooms..

Christmas orders have started rolling in, so my work in my greenhouse is on hold. The clips to hold the greenhouse film up (block off the higher part of the ceiling) came in, but I just haven't had a chance to get out there since last week. Oh well, this is a good problem to have...make some money! The business gets real quiet in January, but the greenhouse will be cold then!

Hi,

Christmas orders have started rolling in, so my work in my greenhouse is on hold. The clips to hold the greenhouse film up (block off the higher part of the ceiling) came in, but I just haven't had a chance to get out there since last week. Oh well, this is a good problem to have...make some money! The business gets real quiet in January, but the greenhouse will be cold then!

Isn't it always the case MoonShadows; anything you want to do is pushed to the bottom of the list whilst anything you don't really want to do is at the top of the list. Every year weather permitting I'm working like mad on the big jobs around the bungalow and gardens but then when I'm unable to work outside due to bad weather like you I find it too cold to do what I want to do and the workshop isn't too inviting like your greenhouse. You'll need to earn an income Moonshadows whenever you can to tide you over the leaner periods. (y)

9:45 this morning and already I'm wet with sweat having just been digging; Blackie and Gale were already here when I got up this morning; Blackie had given everything a good soaking before allowing me out of the bungalow but Gale has been trying to blow me over as I've been digging and I think Gale must be upset over something because she's perishing. I keep turning over a decent sized patch with the spade and I can see where I've been. :)

Kind regards, Colin.

Christmas orders have started rolling in,

Hey! Hey! Think about the Bitcoins you can buy?! Make sure that people don't think you're dealing in DRUGS...:LOL::LOL:

Drug dealers using bitcoin cashpoints to launder money: Police warn of explosion in use of digital currency by criminals to offload ill-gotten gains
  • British police have described bitcoin as an emerging threat in organised crime
  • Crypto currencies like bitcoin only exist in cyberspace and are thus untraceable
  • Sterling is exchanged for the electronic currency at 93 cash machines in the UK
  • Bitcoin shot up by 1,000 per cent alone this year, causing calls for regulation
