Just about ten days and I can start growing some plants from seed in my basement. I can hardly wait! It's always nice to see some growth while it's still snowy outside.

Most important on this year's list are Cardinal Flower and Hoary Vervain. These are two species I added last year and I'm hoping to grow quite a few more if things go well. I'm also hoping to grow some Side Oats Grama and Blue Grama grass this year. I grew a few Blue Gramas last year and they did really well.

I don't have any plans of adding species this year, but if I find them, I'd definitely buy a couple on my "must have" list.

I finally got the last row of onions in--it's been cold and rainy and definitely not planting weather--but today was slightly warmer and the sun was out so the onions went in.
My husband built the second frame for raised gardens, and I did a bit of weeding in the garlic bed. Small steps, but after the weather we've had, any steps are appreciated!

Turning the cover crops under in prep for spring planting. Crimson clover, oats, rye, vetch reached about two feet of dense green manure. The soils really benefit from this and I've got a cover crop going 365 days a year, winter or summer.

Hubby sprayed the fruit bushes with a winter wash. He bought a can of jays fluid but they changed the ingredients, it's not tar based anymore.
Yesterday i planted some more polyanthus, been making the borders wider to put them in.

Mother nature has such disregard for the 1 inch of water per week rule. This is the 5th day of more than 1 inch. View attachment 50125

I notice my yard has become a procreation party for a variety of insects.

Picked up sticks after the stormy weather of last week. Cut the grass and put out 27 bags of pelletized lawn lime. Fussed at Becky for putting magnolia leaves in my leaf compost pile. Sorted leaves. Piled sticks for the great chippening that will occur soon.
