Hi,

Last night Gale was at her best trying to remove everything from the valley side; it was extremely windy as we went to bed and this morning Bron said the wind had been terrible throughout the night but I slept through it.

First thing this morning I checked the roof was still on the bungalow and was pleased to see our property hadn't sustained any damage but as I looked up our rear garden as usual there was tree damage; a big Willow trunk had snapped with Gale placing it very neatly across the garden causing no other damage it even missed the newly planted lavender and the newly erected fence; Gale is so kind to me. :(

I've just come out of the garden after giving my petrol chainsaw and electric shredder a workout; the brash is now shredded and deposited as mulch the trunk and branches cut into short sections awaiting a neighbour to collect them for her woodburner; the wind is still bad but has eased quite a bit; I'm just disappointed my constant companion pet cloud Blackie didn't join in the fun because another good soaking would have really made my day; the wind had a decent chill factor as I was shredding. Just another normal Yorkshire day. :)

Kind regards, Colin.

Mown the lawn this morning and it was a good exercise as there was no condensation among the grass and so nothing sticking to the lawnmower. I then scarfied the lawn a bit. Only 1/3 and will continue tomorrow. Hope this is my penultimate mowing of the back lawn. Water a lot of plants as the soil is bone dry. Can't wait for the heavens to open .. As @Colin says, a bit of soaking will really make my day. But no.. heavens say no!

We awoke to 52 degrees--chilly--no wonder we needed a light blanket last night! It's been sunny, with just a light wind, so we did a bit of vegetable gardening by propping up broccoli, watering peppers, beans and lettuces, and trying to convince the kittens that playing in the puddles around the peppers was not a good idea. Little wet paws when you pick them up make interesting patterns on your shirt.

Hi,

Good idea alp but dogs have owners whilst cats have slaves. :)

After dinner I went up the mountain and created a single big pile of garden debris from three big piles; I then walked away as it can go and rot. ;)

Kind regards, Colin.

LOL! It seems to me you have 48 hours a day, @Colin ! Always on the go.. whilst I had to apply Deep Heat to both legs to limp 5 minutes up the road.. Respect .. from my heart!

Hi,

Thanks alp. I used to do the standard 48 hour day at work but now I'm retired I'm so busy 48 hour days just aren't long enough. I now get out of bed and blink and go back to bed; at work the weeks used to fly by but now retired it's the years which fly by. When I hear of people being bored I always think how sad. I'm sorry to learn of your difficulty in walking and sincerely hope you improve quickly. (y)

I've just been out and the car was reading 7C BRRRRRR. It feels cold but where has Blackie and Gale disappeared to; it's spooky not fighting through lashing rain; it's even a bit brighter this morning. I'm just having a brew before heading up the mountain to resume attacking the ivy; I'll soon warm up. :)

Kind regards, Colin.

LOL! Yes, I reckon you work day and night. Haha.. You're just efficient and have a crack at everything.. Amazing amount of compost piles you have built up.. Really admire your stamina..

I was feeling the cold too. I went back to bed 6.07am as even the cuppa couldn't warm me up. But 20 minutes of scarifying has certainly done the job! Love it. Free scarifier ..and now I have got used to it.

It's very dark here, and there is a continuous split in the air. Damn, please Blackie come here to soak my newly planted irises...

Very grey outside. 15 to 17 with a bit of rain later for an hour if I am lucky. Very boring and miserable October day!

The weather is certainly changing alp; much colder each morning and dark; the nights are rapidly drawing in too and at the month end it will be dark an hour earlier in the afternoon but light an hour longer each morning; I dread our nine month long winters trying to do jobs in a miserable black hole although we never have summers like we used to when I was a kid.

If only I could persuade Blackie and his sister Gale to pay you a permanent visit alp I'm sure you'd receive all the water you ever dreamt of in fact you'd be OK with a rice crop. It's dark; miserable and wet here; it's been pouring with rain so everything outside is soaking wet; our neighbours gardener is on his hands and knees weeding looking like Laa-Laa (Teletubbies) in his dayglo clothing with water running off him. :(

Kind regards, Colin.

We have had very little rain, @Colin ! Shame life is never fair or just. You should move to Essex and next to @Verdun who has a long growing season and the moisture in the air is so much better for plants. I have very dry air here.

It's nice to weed when it's wet a bit as it helps loosen the soil and the weed, but no whilst it is raining.

There is a bit of blue sky on the west side, the rain is nothing but drizzle. I was expecting a tub full of rain. My area is just allergic to rain.
