@alp, I'm really enjoying your narration!!
I got curious, so here is what I've learned to try to help you tell who's who!
The female will be slightly larger than the male. On average, females weigh about 15–20% more than males, and are 5–10% longer in wing and tail length. The male will do most of the hunting, the female will do most of the incubating. It was originally thought that only the females had a speckled "collar," (the websites call it either a necklace or a bib,) and the males did not. They have since found out that females don't always have a necklace, and that males can have a bib - so this is not foolproof.
Female with necklace :
Mated couple - no necklaces:
I had a look at the Columbus/ABC ospreys, and was just in time to see a shift change! It was funny, the egg-sitter seemed content, but then the other walked over to stand beside, hunkered down a bit, and just pushed the egg-sitter out of the way!!
I clicked off the site, and when I clicked back, it was just a view of the Columbus skyline.
Why are they telling people on the news to watch, then all I see if traffic?
