We have 50 gallon drums, (I believe 50). We are working on the entire process, and choosing the best idea for catching, storing, and cleaning the water. We don't have any kind of set up like the gutters. But I really like the idea. we catch the water directly in the drums right now. Tightly put the lid on when it isn't raining. And we have a little filtering system inside. I can only filter 1 1/2 gallons at a time. So, obviously, it is a work in progress. we also fill up every 2 liter bottle, large juice jug, and milk jug with water when they're empty. We have an electric water pump and a well. If the power goes out we have NO water. We're always looking for new ideas because you just never know.

This has got to be the way to go. I mean each time we turn our water on, we are charged. If we can water our gardens free of charge, this is a plus. My husband and I ususlly collect rain water in a huge plastic trashcan and use buckets to water our plants an garden. This works for us because we have a very small garden.

Catching rain water is the only way to get it for free anymore, and I want to take as much "free" as I can get
