i meant to come back and mention some kind of gutter helmet deal. I got new gutters as part of getting a new roof from hail damage a couple years back, but the salesman was concentrating more on the roof and I didn't think about it 'til the next spring. I just cleaned out my garage gutters this week (about 13' off the ground). makes me wish I had thought of it every time.

another thing, if you get big enough tanks, but are forgetful like me, have a stop watch or something so you don't forget to turn the spigot off. since my setup is just gravity fed, it can take a while depending on what I'm doing to get enough water for what I need. invariably I forget, and come back to an empty tank if I don't set the timer on my watch.

Good advice about the timing switch. We would probably be outside with it when we were watering the garden.

sorry about all the duplicates. I'm having all kinds of computer problems. I'm just now looking at it again. as far as I knew, the reply never went through. i'm clicking it once this time and hoping it works.

i know. i'm just not good with computers so it might as well be a box that operates on witch craft as far as i know. i can't look at you tube or pretty much any video, some links never come up, it acts like it's overheating and randomly cuts off, my ipod won't sync to it anymore, and just a whole list of crazy stuff. it's all very frustrating.

kinda had to vent a bit. sorry. to get it back on track some (and being at work so i actually can get a 'puter to work for pic posting), here are my main tanks

Picture146-1.jpg

they're behind my garage so even though they're pretty big they're not out in plain sight unless you're back there. i've kind of considered letting some vines or something grow up on them as a bit of camo, but sometimes i need to take things apart and make adjustments, plus the space in the middle is where i mean to eventually put more of a veggie garden. i don't know how much fighting with invasive vines would happen if i went that route.

@Philphine that is a nice set up. I like the way you have it put together. If you want to cover them up build some dividers made out of the lattice board and then plant vines on the divider instead. You can leave plenty of room to move or work on the water holders.

i added gutters to my 12x16 shed, bought them from either lowes and home depot, they are plastic and come in 10' sections. they sold the plastic screens to keep out debris, everything was easy to install like putting a puzzle together, i have been very happy with it.

Here we have rain harvesting where rain water is collected from pipes attached to roofs and the water is directed to sumps Many have wells here and the more pits one has in one's garden more water will get absorbed into reservoirs from where the wells get filled up. I have several such pits.

i would not use those hollow cinder blocks the way you have them set up vertical as they can crush. my 275 storage tank like yours weighs 2,200 pounds full of rain water.

I'd love ot do that, the place where I will be living is os rainy almost the whole year, and would feel more comfortable reusing that rain water than wasting our drinking water on the plants.
