I gave up after ten minutes with MotherFatherSon. I thought it poor.
I'm always supicious of "big names" who end up in TV series.
James May's programme was interesting...He wasn't.... always too full of himself and hair that long and scruffy on a 56 year-old isn't a good look.
A Place to Call Home, is being repeated from the beginning on Drama starting on Saturday at 1.00pm.
Part of the enjoyment for me first time round, was the inclusion of contemporary records which were available at the time the drama was set. They were well chosen as they set mood for the particular scenes in which they were used.
These are some I remember from the first series.
Frank Chacksfield "Where is Your Heart,"(no YouTube video)
"Ebb Tide,"
Ray Anthony. "At Last."
Jo Stafford, "You Belong to Me."
The Mills Brothers, "You’re Nobody ‘til Somebody Loves You."
Joni James,
"Have You Heard?"
"Why Don’t You Believe Me?"

In subsequent series they used other songs with insipid covers by some unknown Australian singers. They even made a CD of them!
I'm curious to find out if they substitute covers or remove them completely, when they show the first series again.
