making manicotti for Christmas Eve dinner. realized I bought too much ricotta, so now thinking about a ricotta cheese and candied orange rind pie, probably an invention. but will look about and see comparisons of like recipes.

You nice folks who admired my greenhouse and asked about solar heating--sorry, it wasn't me! I did post one showcase about roses but that was all. Those roses are definitely not in a greenhouse!
The votive candles used the last of the beeswax we harvested and purified (getting the bees' knees out, you know). They are fun to make with the silicone molds.

And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first, the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse’s arms.
Then the whining schoolboy, with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress’ eyebrow. Then a soldier,
Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon’s mouth. And then the justice,
In fair round belly with good capon lined,
With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances;
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slippered pantaloon,
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side;
His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank, and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

Well, we're all down to the wire. If we haven't got most of our baking done, we've got to push the panic button!:eek:

Today I baked two loaves of bread that are full of dressing spices - parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme... sounds like a song :whistle: The other breads I baked were just everyday use stuff and some cheese bread for one of my sons who was around today.

The last of the Christmas trays went out today, along with small loaves of bread for shut-ins. A large loaf is too much for them, but a small loaf is just right.
Tomorrow is baking pies--pumpkin, pecan, and custard. We aren't going to eat them all--but a couple of friends have loads of relatives arriving and a pie or two are most welcome. I love to bake pies!
CanadianLori, would you mind posting, when you have time, the recipe for the bread with the dressing herbs? No hurry, you probably have other things to do this time of year!
