Beets looking weak. Going to let them to until the end see if anything comes of them. Think it will have to be a winter crop in my local area.

they will and you can eat the salad leaves. I prefer to eat the leaves than the root. Sorry that I missed this post. No wonder I didn't know @Perki is now en route or already in Benidorm!

Not sure to early to tell as soon as it stops raining will cover them with something really windy as well not a great start to the day :-(

Don't let it ruin your day. Plants basically want to live. Believe you me, I have a tomato growing out of the tiny crack of my concrete pathway!

Mostly beets and pak Choi:-(

Pak choi is lovely. I must sow some seeds. My salad leaves planters are now in a sorry state. Be careful when you repair the glass panes. Take extra care.
Have a good day everyone, rest up a tad @alp ..(y)....must dash!:)

Have a good day, @Upsy Daisy ! Hope your dad doesn't overwork you.

Glass is always trouble. Friend had one shattered. If you can, see if you can go to double glazing shops (only for windows) to get some rejects or leftovers. They are toughened and are usually much better in quality. Every time our car drives round that shop, I feel like going to have a word with the owner. He had loads of different sizes outside his shop. Nice to make a mini lean to outside the lean to with double glazed top. I would like to have a polytunnel, but with fireworks next door will burn holes in them in no time.

I really like pickled beets, so I was in the hope they might do well. First time I have tried to grow them in the south aka land of oppressive weather.

I have tons of seeds and last year, I had a giant one. But the earthiness of the beetroot just put me off. In the end, it shrivelled and was chucked.

I also attempted juicing and again the earthiness put me off. I don't even like the salad leaves from them. So now, I have tons of seeds staring at me, making me feel very guilty. I might try pickling when I grow them next year.

After doing the lawn mowing, things went down hill. The squash had produced no fruit or actually fruits which all had died prematurely:eek::oops:, so I ripped it up and discovered where my precious snowdrops had been.:( I turned over all the pots and much to my relief, they were still there, despite having done zilch! It cost me an arm and a leg. I repotted them, adding quite a bit of moss gathered from the garden. I'm going to grow salad leaves on top and hopefully they will be watered and by the time the leaves die down, I will have flowers from the expensive snowdrops. That's the hope any way!

Went to get some free shingles. The man had 3 tons of them.:eek::eek:! His house was facing son's secondary school and the man told us that he grew up up the road in my area. The world is so small. Such a big garden and it was nice and quiet. Such a lovely place to live in. He had an enormous garden, all laid to lawn. I have found out that the shingles I placed underneath the courgettes have stopped the slugs or snails causing damage! Now I have one more use for them. Very pleased. Was thinking of getting more horse manure and suddenly it rained. Such a lovely day for gardening.

Boiling Jasmine rice and it says 70g per person and yet 500ml per 70g. Shocking and now the saucepan is flooding! The Basmati rice only requires twice the amount.:eek:

Hi there @alp!
That's often the way I've found, having had a particularly busy day and then experiencing difficulties dropping off to sleep....could be an active mind going over the day's event's.

Our rain forecast has shrunk some what......looks like its now set to arrive later( if at all!) Bright start to the day down here.

Lovely day so far. It was so cool and blissful that I was willing to go and fetch the shingles. I didn't break a sweat. We didn't take a lot as we don't want to burden the axle or the containers.

We actually had rain! Hurrah. Even though it is short, it's better than nothing.

You could be right. I thought I would drop off and sleep like a log. No. Any way, made it up lunch time and then friend came for a chat!

Now I know why the jasmine rice was reduced. The instruction was wrong. Too much water. It ruined the meal and it was like gruel! Yuk! 500ml is a lot for 70g of rice! Now I've learned a lesson!

It's so cold tonight that I have to wrap myself with a big long coat. It has rained quite a bit and most of the butts are full bar one! Quite happy! How's your day, @Upsy Daisy ?

Hello @alp, not a bad day. Quite a lot of rain....off and on....here too:):)
I am feeling cold now that I've sat down, had to go and find a fleece jacket !!!!:cold::cold:

At my Dad's today, also went to the shops for him as he had ran out of a few things.

Carried on with some belated Spring Cleaning when I got back, then we went into town to do our grocery shopping. I bought a large diary for recording my sowings ,cuttings etc from Poundland , normally use a note book , but this is a hardback one so should last better.(y)

You've certainly had a busy day by the sounds of it....free shingle, that's a very good bargain :D

Off to catch up on GW....have you seen it yet?
