Hi all,
I planted a Wisteria seed in the summer of 2021. It grew and is now about 12 inches tall and has lots of growth, although light green/yellowish and not dark green.
I'm thinking of planting it at the front of the house in full sun, in a large pot.
What are the best things to do to ensure that it grows well, thrives and climbs?
Thanka in advance.

Hi and welcome

I'm surprised that it has grown so little in two years. When you say it has a lot of growth you should restrict it to one main trunk with a couple of branches, each side for now, like our one on the fence.

We've several wisterias and none were less than five feet when purchased.
They should grow like weeds.

Our main ones are these which are about twenty years old.

Hi,

Thanks for your swift response.
I have attached photos of the two wisteria...

Let me know what you think.

Many thanks.

To be honest, I'm not impressed. They are far too small to do much for a very long time.
If you want to have a decent sized plant then you need to spend a bit of money.

Now is a good time to find one at a garden centre, look for one which has flowered, you tell that by the spiky fronds which carried the blossom. Some wisterias take years to flower.

This is the white one we bought in April 2018, which I've just looked up on my laptop, for which we paid £50. It was about 5ft tall. The garden centre guaranteed it would flower.

By June the following year it had reached the other side of the pergola. (there's a big clematis to the right)

This is it in 2020 with several blooms, (there's blue ones either side.)

It shows up better in this video from April of that year. There's a lot of blooms on it, still a bit green but they would flower a week later.
Frankly, that was the sort of progress I wanted.
