The Ant and the Grasshopper
In a field one summer's day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart's content. An Ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest.

"Why not come and chat with me," said the Grasshopper, "instead of toiling and moiling in that way?"

"I am helping to lay up food for the winter," said the Ant, "and recommend you to do the same."

"Why bother about winter?" said the Grasshopper; "We have got plenty of food at present." But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil.

When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food and found itself dying of hunger - while it saw the ants distributing every day corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer. Then the Grasshopper knew: It is best to prepare for days of need.

Since I live in a second floor apartment, I have no outdoor garden, so everything I grow lives here inside with me. That means I can maintain a container garden year round if I want to. I'm currently growing a banana tree, an orange tree, and a whole lot of house plants. In the past I've grown tomatoes, potatoes, beans, carrots, and hot peppers. What I grow just depends on what mood I'm in at the moment, and right now, going into winter, I don't really feel much like growing veggies indoors.

The yard needs to be cleaned up, it was neglected this summer. There are 5 trees that will start to drop leaves in a few weeks, big job to get them all up before the snow starts.

Yes, I may do some yardwork too. I am going to bring some plants inside. I don't have any real plans for growing until the Spring though. It is just one of the many things that are not really appropriate to do in the wintertime. I just think there are other things to concentrate on, but I will probably get something done even if it is just pruning plants.

I don't have a greenhouse, but the amount of houseplants doubles in the winter. Everything from the front and back porch comes inside; the living room looks like we're living in a jungle! :D About the extent of my "gardening" is shuffling plants around to make sure they all get enough sunlight. :(

Sadly my gardening and growing efforts had ceased for the past 6-9 months and in that time I lost some plants and things became a mess. I'm working on turning that around so my fall - winter efforts are including.

Taking care of dead weeds
Reviving my drip irrigation systems
Identifying and starting (outside) my plant in fall for early spring bloom flowers seeds
Planting some winter greens
I'm replacing the poly-carbonate panels in on my little green house
Identifying and starting (in greenhouse) my plant in the winter for spring outside seeds

Nice to live in a mild climate :)
