I have many houseplants growing inside in the winter, but I've never grown any vegetables or herbs indoors. I did not realize that tomatoes could do well indoors in the winter. I would definitely like to try some cherry tomatoes indoors this winter.
They are fairly easy if you can provide a LOT of sunlight and you can keep them warm enough, above 72F nighttime temperature

Growing plants indoor for the winter is a good idea but I'm not sure if the herbs can withstand the severe cold even when indoors. My best bet is mint because I see it as a sturdy herb and with some simple uses like decorating a dinner plate or neutralizing the odor of food in the mouth. Maybe you can try mint in small pots that you can keep in your kitchen or place in the terrace for sunning.

I forgot to mention sprouts. They're edible and you can grow them in winter. It's very, very easy. What I love the most are mung bean sprouts. They're delicious!

I would love to start on basil, cilantro, and mint as soon as I can find a spot in my new home with a steady light coming through. For now, I only keep them in water to use with my cooking, but I would like to have a permanent feel for them in soil.

Basil, cilantro and mint are great herbs:)
I'm not sure if it's normal, but my wild strawberries keep bearing fruits. I harvested two strawberries today:D

Hi All,

I'm considering growing inside this winter. Does anyone have experience with this? What did you plant? Can I plant anything edible other than some herbs?
In my house I have a special room for growing plants. But, I have lots of flowers and plants all over my house, in and out of the room.

It sounds lovely Sonjiskica! How big is this room? What does it look like? I've always dreamed of having an indoor garden, a big room with giant windows that would look like a jungle where I could plant anything I want:)

I focus mainly on plants like basil, parsley, dill, rosemary and have experiments with potatoes and carrots but that is not going too well right now. Anyway my pots of basil are doing quite well and the whole room smells wonderfully. I love basil the most so I have the greatest amount of it. Usually it is for kitchen purposes.
