Will the same variety of avocado planted nearby help? Or do I have to get a "type B" avocado. I can just clone a part of my hass tree and plant it close together.

The older pomegranet tree has been pruned numerous of times, and it did help. It actually got the first (and last) flower last year. It has hope, but I already gave up on it. This new tree already has multiple flowers on it.

It will be best if you pollinate with type A and Type B. Two type A's or 2 type B's can self pollinate but at a great reduction in fruiting.
On the pomegranate. How long has it been planted there?

About 5-6 years.

I think I'll just keep one Hass avocado. I don't really like bacons and other type B avocados.

Your grandfathers tree was probably grown from seed. It will take 7-10 years for it to produce fruit.

So, if it has been in the same spot 5 - 6 years, and will take 7 - 10 years to bloom, do you think it is just starting to bloom? Like last year was a "trial run" of sorts?

Just asked my mom about the tree. She said 10 years.

Don't be embarrassed! I think that's probably a good thing... If it bloomed the first time in your memory last year, and would take ten years to bloom, it might be just starting!! If so, what an opportune time, since you just got another to pollinate with. (y) We'll have to wait for @Chuck's answer, but this could be good. :)

I do have to tell you one sad thing. :( If you have a length of time you think was 5-6 years, then find out it's really been 10 years... that's one of the first signs of getting old. I'm surprised, it usually doesn't happen in someone as young as you. o_O Maybe it's the company you keep.

Haha. Oh Mary, I must admit I enjoy you're company.

The truth is that I only got into gardening last year. I had no clue this tree even existed. I didn't care about it. (Now I do of course).

You say that like it's a bad thing... :cautious:
(And I enjoy yours too, or I wouldn't remember Dead XD ;).)

I know that you are "new" to gardening. . Remember, you joined two days before I did! :D

Ok, do you mean it may have bloomed before, and you just never noticed, because you didn't care?

This is great. The tree is right on time. Now the only thing to worry about is the variety. Being as how your grandfather went to all the trouble to seed, germinate and grow the baby tree it must be a special variety where it originated. Hopefully it will be in Miami too.

It did flower, but only last year. Before me, the tree was a mess. It had ugly leaves, very small. I gave it a needed trim, added some nice organic fertilizer and soil - and BOOM! It flowered. It might do well for me I hope.

My grandfathers tree wasn't grown from seed. He bought it as a plant and took it all the way to Miami. Maybe it is special. All I know is that the blooms are red. They had lots of pollen but they fell off.

It could be grown from seed but most professional growers use cuttings. If it was from cuttings it is late in flowering but that could be because no one properly maintained the tree from when it was planted.
